Only 2 hours drive from Glasgow, perfectly situated for exploring Argyll and the islands.njoy easy access to everything from this perfectly located home base. LOCAL and TOURIST ATTRACTION INFORMATION Launderette Facilities We do not have a washer/dryer, however the Lochgilphead Caravan Park which is in Bank Place, off the main road heading out of Lochgilphead has launderette facilities. Leisure and Entertainment There are two hotels in the town with beer gardens, as well as a fab fish and chips restaurant for sit in or takeaway. The lovely Smithy Inn which is half way down the lane from the cottage does tasty breakfasts and lunches, as well as being open some evenings. Lochgilphead has its own local swimming pool which is located along the Oban Road. There is golf, walking, fishing, beaver trail, forest walks, beaches and lovely Crarae Gardens to visit. Tourist Attractions The nearby Crinan Canal is perfectly placed to explore Mid Argyll, the islands and the surrounding areas on foot, bike or by car. The flat picturesque tow path is perfect for walking or bikes. Day trips from Lochgilphead include the marine town of Tarbert, Inveraray where there is Inveraray Jail, Inveraray Castle and lovely tourist shops and cafes. Campbelltown is a lovely place to visit and on the way you can stop off at the West Port Beach with Machrihanish Dunes which is a beautiful long beach popular with surfers, beachcombers and walkers. This walk along the beach from the north end allows you to make your walk as far or as short as you want. Parking is available at West Port Beach. There are some really interesting cultural sites such as Standing Stones, Dunadd Hill, Kilmartin Museum as well as the village of Kilmartin itself, Cup and Ring marks and Castles.
