Artist Apt in Wildlife Sanctuary
Enjoy a restful getaway in our certified Wildlife Sanctuary. Relax in a lovely studio apartment with magnificent mountain views. Begin or end your day meandering on trails through our conservation fields and forest. Breathe deeply and refresh! I am temporarily closed for several months due to family needs. However, please send an inquiry at any time for future reservations considerations after January 1, 2022. THANK YOU---I will return!! The spacious apartment for two is situated above my art studio and accessed via indoor stairs to second floor. It is furnished with a queen-sized bed, seating & dining area with magnificent views of the mountains in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. The bathroom and galley kitchen are located on the first floor adjacent to my art studio. The reading nook is for your enjoyment and includes a small charging station for your cell phones, IPads or laptop. My studio work area is off limits to guests, but I’m happy to talk about my art practice. We provide fresh towels and linens, basic condiments and snacks. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions. The galley kitchen, located on the first floor, is equipped with coffee & tea supplies; a full size refrigerator and microwave. PLEASE NOTE: The galley kitchen does not have a stove or oven. The bathroom has a shower, no tub. Artists and writers may find it a perfect setting for inspiration and meditations on their creative projects. Meads Run Farm is near the Potomac River in western Loudoun County, Virginia's wine and horse country, minutes from the C&O Canal bike and hike path (on which you can bicycle to Harpers Ferry, WV only 12 miles away). Bring your hiking shoes and backpack for a day hike on the Appalachian Trail, minutes from our home. Taste local wines at one or more area vineyards, enjoy antiques shops and finish the day at an award-winning restaurant. Country fairs, festivals, farm and arts tours are other key features of this area. The historic towns of Leesburg, VA and Frederick, MD are only 25 minutes away by car. We both love the outdoors and look forward to sharing our enthusiasm and knowledge about the area, including our interest in local agriculture & John's organic vegetable garden; native plants, birds and other wildlife. Private entrance with self entry to the apartment. Parking on-site. Private nature trails and general outdoor areas. Access to main house not included, except washer/dryer in laundry room available for emergency need. Horse barn visits allowed only with owner. There is self-entry to the apartment. We continue practicing social distancing to ensure that our guests feel comfortable upon arrival. My husband and I are both fully vaccinated and are comfortable removing masks if our guests are vaccinated and fine with return to this practice. We try to meet our guests on arrival to provide additional details or answer questions from guests. While some guests enjoy conversation and visiting with us, we respect our guests' privacy and individual preferences for interacting. We are available for questions and assistance and are generally on-site as our work is home-based. If during your stay you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my cell phone directly. For some of our favorite restaurants, vineyards, points of interest, please go to the Guidebook section. Please note that grocery stores are one-half hour away in either Frederick, MD, Leesburg, VA or Purcellville, VA if you wish to stock up on prepared foods and basics. There is a 7-11 convenience store in the Town of Lovettsville. We live in a rural area which still has horse and cattle farms, open space and small villages scattered through the county. Lovely country roads can lead you to a vineyard, an arts festival, a farmers' market, local musicians playing in a brew pub or cafe. Lovettsville hosts an Oktoberfest in late September, nearby Waterford has its well-known annual Waterford Fair in October; the Western Loudoun Artists Studio Tour is held every June; events at Morven Park in Leesburg are close enough to consider during your stay; and much more. Driving here is the best so you can explore the surrounding area, although we have had guests bike out from D.C. on the C&O Canal path. Other guests have also brought their bikes by car. You can do a round-trip day bicycle ride to Harpers Ferry, WV as a side adventure. -Grocery stores are NOT close, so either bring your groceries or know that you will need to drive to one of these towns: Brunswick MD, Frederick, MD, Leesburg, VA, or Purcellville, VA. -Consider bringing your bicycles for the C&O Towpath or your jogging gear. -Bring a canoe or kayak to paddle and fish on the Potomac River; entry at McKimmey's Landing on Lovettsville Road, minutes from Meads Run Farm. -If winter visit and we have snow, bring your snowshoes. -Always bring your hiking shoes!
