Share charming woodland cottage by lake, wifi

Large 20x20 rm in main floor of cottage on 10+ acres of private forest backing to 500ac lake and 2000ac regional park. Wifi and fiber optic internet service. Netflix free movies. Off street parking. Share kitchen, laundry, dining room The cottage is situated on 10+ acres of privately owned forest known as "The Mini-Mountain", that backs to a 500ac lake stocked with bass and tiger muskie. Only 35 miles from the hustle and bustle of the nation's capital, the loudest noises here are bird songs. Attached by decking to the host's "Homestead House", the structure served for many years as her family's four car garage. As a widow and empty nester, Marilyn drew upon her skills as an artist to convert the garage into additional living space in which to house personal treasures of a privileged life, and to share her rustic retreat with guests from around the world. The 20X22 bed/sitting room is furnished with teak queen size bed (with feather comforter and heated mattress pad), dresser, bookshelves and tables, a flat screen digital tv with ROKU box for streaming, a black leather queen size sofa bed, a 3 tier electric organ, quality art work, a desk, several chairs, and a lacquered coffee table with intricate inlays. Environmental control is assured by dimmer controls for the many recessed halogen lights, individual controls for air conditioning, and rheostat knob controls for each of the several electric (oil filled) baseboard heating units. The large walk-through closet provides plentiful storage space for clothing and other personal items. From the private bed/sitting room one enters the shared dining and laundry areas, and on through the kitchen and bath areas to a cedar deck. There are separate refrigerator and pantry areas for the downstairs guest(s) and the upstairs guest(s) The refrigerator is stocked with breakfast supplies for short term guests. Tableware, linens, toiletries, and cooking equipment are provided for the convenience of all of our guests. Storage cabinets for food supplies are assigned to long term guests. Guests occupying the ground level guest room share the kitchen, laundry, dining room, and shower with guest(s) in the 2nd floor suite. Second floor guest room is equipped with half bath, but not a shower. There are two full size refrigerators, one for each of the suites. There is also a mini fridge upstairs. The refrigerators are stocked with basic breakfast supplies for the first couple days of a visit. Private suites and shared spaces are cleaned before a guest’s arrival, but no maid service is provided during the term of the visit. Off street parking is available on site. Host shares her extensive library and grand piano in the adjacent homestead house upon request. Guests will be greeted upon arrival by Marilyn or her assistant, and given a brief tour of the property. Marilyn retains a library/music room in the adjacent "Homestead House" and a studio in the mill shop. She is frequently on site assisting with remodeling of the Homestead House interior or working in the herb gardens. Her assistant works from 9-5, M-F, to help maintain and develop the family properties, and can answer questions or provide assistance if Marilyn is not available. "The Mini-Mountain" offers guests unusual privacy and tranquility but also easy access to urban amenities. A "wedge of green" between the densely populated "corridor cities" along the I-270 High Technology Corridor, the village of Boyds has considerably more parkland and green space than either residential or commercial property. Residents and tourists alike enjoy bicycling along rustic rural roads and trails, fishing and boating on the lake, hiking the many woodland paths, photographing the wide variety of waterfowl and bird population, deer hunting in season, and other activities inspired by the natural environment. A public library, regional arts center, community college, medical center, sports complexes, movie theatres, restaurants and shopping centers are only a ten minute drive. The MARC commuter train, Brunswick Line, provides passenger service morning and evening, Monday-Friday, to and from Union Station in Washington DC, and points in between. One can switch from train to metro at the Rockville or Union stations. A private vehicle is needed for local transportation. Off street parking is provided on site. The "MiniMountain" is not a grand estate, but rather a rustic retreat from the noise, congestion, and stresses of urban life. Gardens, woodlands, and structures are maintained without toxic chemicals by one handyman, Marilyn, and the occasional guest who enjoys gardening or crafting. While the property abounds with birds, squirrels, deer and other wildlife and native plants, guests should not expect a manicured suburban lawn. We strive to restrict insects and other woodland creatures to the cottage exterior, but occasionally we are not successful. The brown marmorated stink bug is a relatively recent import from the Orient, and because it has no natural predators here, control is particularly challenging. These small shield shaped pests are most likely to appear inside at the change of seasons. If seen, please flush down the toilet. Do not squeeze! The hot tub on deck is not operational at this time.
