The Nest is a charming cottage in the heart of the picturesque town of Melrose in the Scottish Borders. The town is home to the Melrose Rugby Sevens & the Borders Book Festival as well as many restaurants, cafes & small shops. St. Cuthbert’s Way, Melrose Abbey & the Eildon Hills are a short walk from the cottage. The small lounge/kitchen/diner is well-equipped while the upstairs ensuite bedroom is cosy with a bright bathroom with bath/shower. The Nest also has a small sunny courtyard garden. The Nest has been newly painted in the Spring of 2022 with fresh interior decoration updates and a new queen-size mattress. Guests have access to the whole cottage which is accessed via a secure keypad lock with code. There is a small sunny courtyard garden to the rear of the cottage which is accessed through a stable door. Free parking is on street at the front of the cottage. Downstairs consists of a small entrance hall with understair storage for muddy walking boots and shoes. The cosy and bright lounge is open-plan and leads off to a fully equipped kitchen. The lounge has a Smart TV as well as local information and a basket of games for guests. WiFi is included. Downstairs is carpeted throughout except for the kitchen area which has wooden flooring. The courtyard garden has outdoor furniture as well as an outside store for bottle recycling, muddy boots and also contains a small freezer. The upstairs of the cottage is carpeted and has one bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed with a new mattress, bedside tables, dressing table and mirror, small walk-in wardrobe with hangers which is under the eaves of the roof and two chairs. The bright bathroom has a toilet, sink and shower over the bath. Soaps and hand soap are provided as well as all bedding and towels. The Nest is situated on a small terrace of cottages with free parking out front. The cottage is ideally located for walking in the Eildon Hills or st. Cuthbert's Way which passes the front door as well as the shops and restaurants of Melrose. Driving into Melrose and locating the cottage is easy. We have free on street parking and we are located a short walk from the nearest bus stop as well as a 15-20 min walk from Tweedbank Railway Station. Buses from Melrose can take you locally or further afield to Edinburgh or Berwick-upon-Tweed. Tweedbank Station runs hourly direct trains to Edinburgh Waverley. The Nest is a one minute walk from the town centre & a two minute walk to Melrose Abbey. The cottage is situated 50 yards from the start of the Eildon Hill walk & St. Cuthbert’s Way. The Trimontium Roman Museum in Melrose offers guided walks to the nearby fort site in Newstead as well as a guided Melrose town walk. Melrose is a small town & easily accessible by foot. The River Tweed is a five minute walk from the cottage as well as footpaths to the small villages of Gattonside, Newstead & Darnick. A one minute walk from the cottage is a bus link to Galashiels & beyond to Peebles & Edinburgh or towards Berwick-upon-Tweed & the coast. Tweedbank Station is a 20 minute walk from Melrose or you can choose to take the frequent bus service. The Borders Railway operates from Tweedbank with an hourly train service to Edinburgh Waverley. The Scottish Borders is also wonderful to explore by bike with the Borders Abbeys Way cycle route stopping in Melrose to take in the Abbey. Melrose is also well located for national cycle routes as well as many local routes. There is also plenty free on street parking right outside the cottage. Please be aware that the staircase at The Nest is steep and only suitable for the able bodied. The Nest welcomes well-behaved dogs but please note they are not allowed on the furniture. However, if your furry friend is used to being on the sofa at home we do request that you bring your own throws to protect from damage and excessive hair. Pets should not be left unattended at the property. Please be aware we do have neighbours on either side the of the cottage. Any damages must be paid for. We can provide a travel cot on request for those who have a baby or small toddler. Please do let us know beforehand if you are bringing a pet or baby to stay at the cottage so that we can prepare.
