The sunny south-facing guest suite is in our home in the heart of the village close to Oxford with great road, rail & bus links. A short walk to the station for a 10min ride to Oxford (& London trains), and plenty of woodland/country walks from the front door and red kites often circling overhead. Blenheim Palace and Park is very close by. A perfect base for exploring Oxfordshire & the Cotswolds. The village has a good CoOp (& postoffice), a fish‘n’chip/pizza takeaway, and local pubs with food. It is a bright, spacious, self-contained and well-equipped two-room flatlet on the first floor. It comprises a lovely large double bedroom (en suite) with a connecting door to a spacious private living room with kitchenette. It is accessed through the front door and hallway of the main house - but is otherwise entirely self-contained. We are rigorous about 'Hands, Face, Space' and there is hand-sanitiser and wipes for your use in the entrance hallway and in the flatlet. You also have easy access to the lovely garden with seats and tables, and (in summer) a small meadow flower area - with a simply stunning view (see pictures). The bedroom has a good quality iron-frame double bed and mattress (190x130), an old family chest of drawers, wardrobe, well-stocked bookshelf and bedside tables and lights. The compact ensuite has a quality shower, WC, basin and chrome ladder radiator. Good quality towels are provided, along with 'Faith in Nature' Lavender & Geranium shower gel, shampoo & conditioner as sold by Oxfam. The attached living room has a comfortable 2-seater sofa, a work/dining table, a TV (with Freeview & DVD slot), and free WiFi access. There is a neat built-in studio kitchenette with fridge, microwave, ceramic double hob, sink, kettle, and toaster. Tea & coffee, milk & sugar, and a good quality breakfast muesli and 'porridge pots' are provided for an easy simple breakfast, as are cutlery, crockery, mugs and glasses and pots, pans, dishes & utensils should you want to cook for yourself. You can eat out in local pubs, bring in takeaways, or if you are staying longer the co-op supermarket is a short walk away and the flatlet is well equipped for self-catering and quiet nights 'in' with books, music or TV after your busy days out and about. Both rooms are tastefully freshly decorated, have African art, old family furniture and ornaments. Access to our washing machine and dryer is by arrangement for our longer staying guests. The flatlet is to the front of the house overlooking the driveway, and across the road to historic cottages. Recently (Sept 2021) work started to replace the unsightly old garage opposite with a smart new small development of sympathetically designed houses in character with the village style. This may lead to some building project noise. We hope and believe you will find it welcoming - whoever you are. Our working lives have taken us all over the world - we are open-minded & progressive 'sixty-somethings' and welcome internationalism and diversity of all kinds. We just keep learning more and more by meeting people of all backgrounds, cultures and identities. Although the flatlet is accessed through the shared entrance hallway and upstairs landing (see photo), it is private and lockable and occupies the whole of the front of the house. Our bedroom suite is at the other end of the landing at the back of the house. The house is set back from the road and there is sufficient parking for three cars (considerately parked - including our one) on the gravel driveway in front of the house. The flat is within our home, and one of us is usually around to welcome you. If we cannot be home, we will let you know in advance and tell you where to find keys (and ‘our’ rooms will be locked). Guests can use the side path to access the private lower part (given over to English meadow flowers and grasses) of the terraced garden (we use the 'upper' part) at the back of the house where there are stunning uninterrupted views across the open Oxfordshire countryside of the Evenlode valley towards the Blenheim Palace estate, and chairs and table for you to sit in peace. We will be equally happy to leave you in peace or to respond to your questions. We can advise you on the best and nearest pubs and restaurants and how to get to the glorious Oxford colleges, Blenheim Palace, the Ashmolean Museum, the theatre, the spectacular Oxford (or Bicester Village) shopping or local cinemas and restaurants in our nearby small towns of Witney and Woodstock a very short distance away. We have brochures, maps and information leaflets available for you. There may be some times when we are away for the period of your stay. If this is the case we will inform you in advance and will liaise accordingly about keysafe self-check-in etc Long Hanborough is a medium size village with good amenities. The village is served by buses to both Witney and to Woodstock (then Oxford). The mainline train station in the village goes directly to London Paddington (through Oxford) and to Hereford - and all stops in each direction. There is an outdoor tap for washing off walking boots, and we ask that they be left in the entrance porch. It is a non-smoking house.
