The Nest — Coastal Escape was crafted to provide freedom from the stresses of life and allow Guests to reset in natural surroundings. The result is a dreamy off grid sanctuary perched high on the rugged, west coast cliffs overlooking the Tasman Sea. Sleep/Lounge — The most important quality of any Nest is the comfort it gives its occupants. The Nest — Coastal Escape is no exception. Sink into the lush King bed and let the crashing waves drown out life's constant noise. After a well deserved sleep in, move from the cosiness of the bed to the comfort of the couch and continue to drink in the dreamy surroundings. Eat — A memorable meal is made of more than the sum of its ingredients. Combine the kitchenette at The Nest with its expansive sea views to create memories that stay with you long after the last bite. Powered by solar and natural gas, the off grid kitchenette includes a mini fridge, gas burner and large sink. For the more adventurous, take the experience further by gathering food from The Nest's environment or cooking by fire on the beach under the stars. Bathe — If the trickle of the river and roar of the ocean leaves you longing to dive in, soak in the steamy waters of The Nest's outdoor bath. Ease in with a friend and watch the Milky Way float by overhead. Or cleanse your skin of the sea's salt in the recently renovated bathroom, which includes a new shower, toilet and basin. The Nest — Coastal Escape is located on a private dairy farm. To make finding the space easier, the Hosts will provide detailed instructions prior to arrival. With no other houses in the immediate vicinity, guests are left to enjoy the peaceful serenity of The Nest but can rest assured knowing the Hosts are happy to answer any questions over the phone during their stay. The area surrounding The Nest is rugged New Zealand nature at its most untouched. Black sand beaches, wind swept clifftops, a winding river and undisturbed lake. All pointing west towards the setting Sun. The area is waiting to be discovered. If the elements conspire against you or the need for Barista coffee becomes too great, the closest urban fix can be found in Opunake, a ten minute drive from The Nest. Although it is not a large town, Opunake boasts all you need and nothing more, including several eateries, supermarkets, a boutique cinema and popular patrolled beach. The Hosts encourage all guests to support local businesses when visiting the area. The Nest is located deep within the Taranaki region, an area well regarded for its natural beauty. A landscape dominated by the mountain, Taranaki Te Maunga, and surrounded by the Tasman Sea. It is one of the few places in the world where you can catch a wave and hit the slopes in the same day. Taranaki is also home to a growing number of Arts and Cultural experiences. Explore the stunning displays at the Len Lye Centre and Puke Ariki Museum or time your stay with the WOMAD and Americarna Festivals. The Hosts are both born and bred in the region so can provide plenty of suggestions based on the Guests' interests. Due to the secluded nature of The Nest, private transport is a necessity. The farm is approximately one hours leisurely drive south of New Plymouth on the scenic Surf Highway 45. Note — The farm track to The Nest is partly on unpaved roads and may not be suitable/desirable for all vehicles to access. If guests require a vehicle capable of going off road, the Hosts will provide one. Please let the Hosts know in advance if you would prefer to have a vehicle provided on site. Solar Power - The Nest is completely off grid and utilises three solar panels on its roof to generate all its electrical needs. The solar power system provides enough electricity to power the lights, heating, refrigeration and power points. But it does have its limits! Using larger household appliances such as a hair dryer, coffee machine or toaster etc. will cause the system to overload. The Nest was designed in this way to educate guests on the benefits and limitations of solar power systems and encourage mindfulness of power consumption.
