A quaint cracker house (c. 1903) filled with art and little treasures situated on a quiet, dead-end lane, with woods on two sides, a seasonal brook that cascades down the back of property and meanders alongside the large wrap-around porch. Enjoy fly-fishing, tubing, sunbathing at our perfect swimming hole, right in front of the house; take leisurely morning hikes in the woods outback, or along the onsite riverbank trail. A perfect retreat for the writer, musician, or artist looking for nature and seclusion, but not total isolation. The house is nicely situated for enjoying all that the Catskills mountains have to offer--in every season. In the spring: enjoy a weekend of hiking, fishing, or foraging wild ramps. Visit nearby Woodstock, Phoenecia, and other historic mountain towns. In summer: fish, swim, or just nap in a hammock by the river--or on a sunny boulder midstream! Take tubes upstream and shoot the rapids back down to the house. Explore the many nearby trails, take a dip in nearby Blue Hole, a picnic up to Kaaterskill Falls, or a leisurely drive to explore the historic Borscht Belt. Evenings are for grilling trout and local farm-stand veggies under millions of stars. In autumn: enjoy the season's best swimming and hiking, surrounded by breathtaking autumnal tints, the mountains ablaze with red, orange, purple, and yellow. In winter: build a snowman with the kids, curl up by the fire with a good book, or ski the slopes at nearby Hunter or Windham Mountain. The Basics: Two bedrooms, one bath. Wrap around porch nestled in lush wisteria vines and perennial gardens. A Cook’s Kitchen with stocked pantry. Herb garden. A Full Hybrid Gas/Charcoal Grill with Smoker Attachment. Hammocks. Inner Tubes. Wireless Internet; Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime. Sonos sound. Nearby: Zen Mountain Monastery (5 min.) Woodstock / Phoenicia (15 min.) Kaaterskill Falls (30 min.) Ski Slopes at Hunter Mountain (35 min.) at Windham (45 min.) Bard's Summer Stage and other Hudson Valley Attractions (35 min.) Straight-shot 1.5 hr drive from NYC (GWB). Main house, porch and surrounding gardens, hot outdoor shower, speedminton court, surrounding woods, direct river access in front of the house, river trail, private swimming hole onsite, inner tubes. Direct access to the Ashokan Rail Trail along the reservoir, right at the end of our road. NB: The Carriage house is used by the host as his art studio; the space is available to guests, but only under special arrangement. Your host may be working unobtrusively in the art studio during your stay, unless specific arrangements have been made for him to be absent from the property. SPECIAL NOTICE CONCERNING COVID-19 ** The house is located on a quiet dead-end lane, where neighbors have observed CDC guidelines since March 15th 2020 and continue to do so. ** I use a professional cleaning service to prepare the house for all newly arriving guests, following the enhanced sanitation protocols recommended by Airbnb, including disinfecting of all surfaces, door knobs, etc. ** I myself have maintained strict adherence to recommended guidelines since March 15th, 2020 based in the detached art studio on the property (see photos) along with my lovable German short-haired pointer. During the week I teach in person at a nearby college; the campus is designated "fully vaccinated, with an over 95% vaccinate rate, nonetheless, masks are worn at all times. Please note that under the circumstances, I will not necessarily be able to relocate to my apartment in the city during your stay, and may thus be working unobtrusively in my studio. I am an artist, and professor of philosophy and human rights. I keep to myself during the day, teaching or working on my projects, and there would be no need for direct contact. ** Guests have the main house, wrap around porch, grill, riverfront, entirely to themselves, as well as the surrounding woods, trails, and the recently opened Ashokan rail trail along the banks of the reservoir (the entrance is a few minutes walk , right at the end of our lane).
