Tamanco's Artist Shack

Tamanco is a campground hostel in the heart of the Costa da Prata, between Porto and Lisbon. We welcome travelers, wanderers, campers and adventurers from near and far-away lands to enjoy the luxury of simplicity under the stars. For creative people we built this unique ‘Shabby Chic Artist Hideaway’. Wander over the site with the chickens, pass the orange trees full of oranges, be amazed at the mimosa and get inspired! When you expect a comfortable, fully equipped bungalow with this 'artist in residence' accommodation, stop reading. We truly like it, but it’s not for everyone. However, do you like old stuff, the warmth of a wood burning stove, and does a messy, somewhat primitive, but stylish decorated place make you happy then this Artist Shack has written your name all over it. You can quietly work here, or stay for a while, together with your friends or family. The tastefully decorated ground floor serves a living room, kitchen and workspace all-in-one. You sleep on top of a platform, in one of the 2 small bedrooms, which can be reached by a wooden ladder. You use the sanitary facilities of the campsite. It's a unique base to explore the center of Portugal. Visit the many special monuments and places in the region, browse local markets, discover Portuguese cuisine and drink ‘um cafézinho’ in one of the many pastelarias. Go hiking in pristine green or along the secluded beaches or endless sand dunes that stretch from Figueira de Foz to Nazaré, which with the highest waves in the world, can rightfully be called the mecca for surf enthusiasts. A Cantina Café & Eatery: a meeting point for everyone We serve 'home made comfort food at ‘A Cantina’, our onsite café and eatery. You can also check out our ‘make your own pizza nights’, or join in for our ‘free soup for everyone’ evenings. Fancy just a drink at the fireplace? You are more than welcome. Rural area, own transport is usefull but there is (little) public transport . The nearest supermarket is 2 km away. Osso de Baleia beach 12 km. Nearby towns: Louriçal 5km, Carriço 2km An active urban life is at a distance of 20 km (Fig da Foz) or 30 km (Leiria). Beautiful things inspire us. Camp Tamanco offers an artist/craftsmen exchange program. Artists & Craftsmen are invited to stay at the Campgrounds for a period in exchange for an artwork or content that can be used at ‘Tamanco’.
