Rural retreat in Mid Wales timber lodge
Afon Lodge is a cosy, well equipped self catering timber cabin sleeping up to 5 people, situated in the peaceful and well cared for 34-acre grounds of the Caer Beris Holiday Park, just outside the town of Builth Wells in the beautiful and unspoilt countryside of Mid Wales. The park is a haven for peace and relaxation in beautiful surroundings, the perfect ‘get away from it all’ location. The lodge is well equipped with gas central heating, large flatscreen TVs in the living area and the main bedroom both with freesat. There are two double bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with a double bed and a single bed above, and a shower room next door. Bedding and towels are all included. The open plan living/kitchen area has all the usual mod cons, including full size fridge-freezer and oven, slimline dishwasher and washing machine, central dining island, and double doors opening on to a large decking area. There is also a patio area to the side of the chalet with gas barbecue and seating, and private parking. Well behaved pets are welcome at the chalet for no extra charge. Keys can be accessed from a key lock box as soon as you arrive. We are literally 2 minutes from the lodge, so on hand if there is anything you might need. Having lived in the area for over 40 years, we can help with recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Within a five minute drive or a flat 20 minute walk (accessed across the wooden swing bridge through the hotel grounds), is our home town of Builth Wells, having a variety of independent shops, pubs, restaurants, fantastic Arts Centre with live shows as well as an independent cinema, and public swimming pool. Within the holiday park is a walking swing bridge across the river to Caer Beris Manor where you can visit for a relaxing drink, afternoon tea or an evening meal with no need to take the car. The cosy log fires are particularly appealing in the winter months. On your doorstep are opportunities for wonderful walks, horse riding, fishing, cycling, golf, the choice is endless. The on-site fishing lake (please note: owned and run by a private angling club not the park so sets its own rules) has permits available, and fishing permits for the Rivers Irfon and Wye are available in town. Builth Wells Golf Course is within 1.5 miles. A 15 minute drive to the Victorian Spa town of Llandrindod Wells is well worth a visit, especially during the Victorian Festival in August. The show ground in Builth Wells holds numerous events throughout the year, including the Royal Welsh Show in July, Winter Fair in November, Spring Festival in May and many other events such as annual Antiques Fairs and National Dog Shows. Other places that are a must to visit in the area a little further afield are the stunning dams at Elan Valley, with cycle trails and popular visitor centre, and the Red Kite Feeding Centre, both in and around Rhayader. The Brecon Beacons are a scenic 30 minutes drive to the South with the mountain peaks of Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Corn Ddu, well worth a visit. A little further South are the stunning waterfalls at Ystradfellte. Afon Lodge is 40 miles from Hereford, 20 miles to Hay-on-Wye the town of books and the world famous literary festival, 17 miles from Brecon, while Abergavenny is 35 miles from the chalet. The nearest airport is Cardiff Airport which is 69 miles from the lodge.
