On the outskirts of the historic village of Lifton and recently refurbished, Leat Cottage is tucked away on a leafy, quiet Devon lane. It's just 5 minutes from the A30, convenient for Dartmoor (15 mins) and the North Devon and Cornish coasts (25 mins). Ideal for walking, cycling, shooting, fishing, water sports or just getting away from it all. The village boasts 2 pubs, 2 hotels, a Post Office and the award winning Strawberry Fields restaurant and farm shop; all within easy walking distance. Away from the congestion of the coast or Dartmoor, Leat Cottage is perfectly located in the Tamar Valley AONB. Ideal for relaxing in the West Devon countryside or enjoying the many local attractions and activities. The cottage is finished to the highest standards featuring traditional whitewashed walls, beamed ceilings and a stone fireplace with wood burning stove. It also has a combi-boiler hot water and central heating system throughout. We offer accommodation for up to five people comprising; one double, one twin, one single and a family bath / shower room. Downstairs provides comfortable, open-plan living in a traditional setting with a sitting area, dining area, and a fully equipped modern kitchen opening onto a private garden with BBQ and patio. Fishing on the rivers Lyd and Tamar for salmon, sea trout, brown trout and grayling can be arranged locally. The cottage is only a five-minute walk from five named pools. There is also a well stocked trout lake in the village. More widely, there is fishing available on Dartmoor and various lakes and reservoirs. Guiding on the Tamar and Lyd, particularly night fishing for sea trout, is also available by prior arrangement with experienced and qualified local instructors. Shooting is available locally when in season, but advance booking is essential. The nearby World Heritage Town of Tavistock is a short 15-minute drive and is the gateway to exploring Dartmoor. It provides a wide variety of pubs, restaurants, shops, banks and its famous Pannier Market is a must for the first-time visitor. More locally, within a five minute walk, the village has two pubs and two hotels including the famous Arundell Arms Hotel. Also located in the village is the award-winning and highly popular Strawberry Fields farm shop offering a restaurant and coffee shop serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas. The main shop itself has an on-site bakery, deli, butchers and wide selection of fresh local produce and groceries. Located in the centre of the village is a post office and licenced newsagents which also stocks a small range of Groceries. Within a short fifteen-minute drive are numerous highly recommended pubs and award-winning restaurants We also live in the village, just a few minutes away from Leat Cottage. We will be at hand to help make your stay one to remember and we can help advise on anything from local restaurants to nearby attractions and activities. Close by to Lifton is a range of attractions and amenities. Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre is home to the National Fairground Collection and the Fairground Heritage Trust. It is a facility unique in the UK. There are superb displays of Fairground Art and Memorabilia, and a large array of vintage rides, stalls and shows - all undercover. Nearby in the historic town of Launceston with its famous castle is 'Liberty' one of our favourite coffee shops anywhere. There is also the Launceston Narrow Gauge Steam Railway offering train rides through the unspoilt Cornwall countryside to Newmills and its popular farm park. For something more energetic you could always head over to the National Trust managed Lyford Gorge with the deepest river gorge in the South West and the 30m high White Lady waterfall. There are walking routes to suit all abilities, tea room and National Trust shop and information centre. Within easy striking distance are the fabulous beaches of North Devon and Cornwall. All offer a wide range of facilities including hire of wet suits and surfboards. The more popular beaches near Bude and Polzeath also benefit from surf schools and coasteering trips. Just a short 10 minute drive north of Lifton is Roadford Lake, the largest area of fresh water in the southwest of England. Roadford provides fun for all the family and great food at the cafe. On site activities include; sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, cycling, archery and fly-fishing. For the adventurous, why not try the circular route around the dam and explore the beautiful surroundings of the Wolf valley. Rural West Devon is not exactly known for having great public transport. As soon as you leave the A30 behind, you will know straight away from the leafy narrow lanes that you have arrived in rural Devon. While Lifton does have bus service routes to Okehampton and Launceston, most guests will prefer the flexibility of their own private car and the chance to explore the local area at their own pace.
