Our cozy room is located in a restored 1850's Victorian home in New York's 2nd largest historic district. In spite of its urban setting, it's very quiet. A short walk takes you to cafes, riverfront restaurants, brewery and historic sites. We were the first listing in the City of Newburgh and we are centrally located. This room is on the second floor in a restored historic house on a quiet one way street in downtown Newburgh above our business, Newburgh Art Supply. We are steps away from Washington's Headquarters, the Newburgh Brewery and Taproom, Liberty Street cafes, pubs and boutiques, Orange County Community College-Newburgh Campus, Newburgh Library, Newburgh City Hall, riverfront restaurants, Downing Film Center- and close to Mount St. Mary's College. It is a short walk to the ferry to the Beacon train station(runs only on weekdays during morning and evening rush hours). The room has a queen-size bed with a firm premium mattress, is fully furnished with a desk and dresser, and it has a closet. It has two large windows facing north and west and a large west-facing window in the bathroom. Coffee and/or tea served in the morning. Wi-fi included- there is no TV anywhere in the house. The property has plenty of off-street parking. We are very accommodating hosts and are familiar with all the local restaurants, sites and events. Children: There is no room for any extra bedding for a child. The room holds two people maximum- including a child. Please be aware that we will only accept a child if there is only one adult, that the child will sleep on the same bed and that we are assured that the child will be watched at all times. It is not a child-friendly environment as we have delicate antiques scattered around the house. With the room you pretty much have the run of the second floor. We have a wonderfully-furnished parlor and a large dining room that we rarely use ourselves. In season, we also have a well-tended garden with a shaded sitting area in the yard. We are always around as this is our home and our business is on the first floor. We enjoy meeting new people and introducing them to our city. We respect your privacy, but we are readily available if you need any help or guidance. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of our location and all it has to offer. The City of Newburgh is a friendly but quiet place. We are in the center of downtown in the historic district- the 2nd largest in New York State. Washington's Headquarters- where he spent the last two years of the Revolutionary War and gave out the first Purple Heart- is right next door to us. The waterfront and several other attractions are within walking distance. The community is diverse. The Fire and Police Departments are on the same block. Our block is one of the best in the city and there has been a large influx of restoration-minded newcomers who have bought everything around us. Improvements are happening rapidly. The City of Newburgh has limited public transportation that is not very reliable. Let us know how you'll be traveling so we can make sure you're aware of all options available. In light of where we're located having a car is ideal. Otherwise: -If you are arriving on Metro-North Hudson Line at the Beacon train station ON A WEEKDAY early in the morning or in the evening there's a ferry that's a 10minute ride to the Newburgh waterfront. We are a couple of blocks up the hill from the dock. (search Newburgh-Beacon ferry and click on the NYWaterway website for a detailed schedule) There are limited buses that go into the City of Newburgh from the train station(search for Newburgh Beacon shuttle Leprechaun Lines for details and schedule). The closest stop to us is Broadway and Grand one block away. -There is also a bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC that stops a few blocks(about a 1/2 mile) away- at Lake St(Route 32) and Broadway. -Lyft and Uber are recently available and have quickly proven to be a reliable option. Local taxi fares within the city are $5 within city limits- about $15 to the Beacon train station. We have a cat that is quiet and wanders the house. We clean thoroughly every day. However, if you're chronically allergic to cats, it might be an issue. We will not allow pets- please don't ask. We are a vegan-friendly household. We are also environmentally aware- no harsh cleaning chemicals(including chlorine bleach) are used. We recycle everything we can and all our paper products are from recycled paper.
