Sunny flat in seaside village 24 km south of Oslo
Our prize-winning village is beside the fjord & has frequent 34 min. bus or ferryboat connections to Oslo. The 50 sq.m. apartment is in the 1st floor of our home in Vollen. The well-equipped, warm flat has a door to the garden. It's suitable for couples, families with children & visitors working in the Oslo area. We furnish very comfortably according to your wishes. There is free safe parking by the house. Close by are: grocery store, restaurants, shops, boat museum & beautiful shore paths. We live in a peaceful neighbourhood beside the Oslo fjord. We have no pets but occasionally have visits to the garden from neighbouring cats. Especially in the winter and early spring, we can see deer which are beautiful and harmless but come right up to the house to eat rosebuds and early tulips! There is free safe parking on our property. Many guests like to leave their car here and take the bus or boat to Oslo. You enter the apartment through the garden door, and immediately come into the combined kitchen, laundry and shower room. From this you walk into the corridor where you will find relevant brochures and information materials displayed. The spacious bed-sitting room is to the left. The separate toilet is located beside the playroom. There is a cupboard in the playroom where guests can borrow extra blankets or rugs. The home-services room which houses the water meter, central heating boiler and carpentry workshop is locked and not accessible for guests. There is also a private storeroom. Guests should not open the small private freezer in the playroom. You are welcome to use the Miele washing machine and tumble drier. We hope you will enjoy the sunny, south-facing garden outside the four apartment windows. There is a wonderful view of the fjord and the ships of all sizes passing. You will find cushions for the outdoor furniture and a couple of outdoor games in the storage box beneath the kitchen window. We live in the house above the apartment and on arrival we expect to welcome guests, give them the keys and show them round. Although check in time is 15:00 hrs, this is very flexible. We are always glad to be informed about the expected time of arrival. In general we expect guests to leave before noon on departure day but again this is negotiable to suit both us and our guests. When we are at home we are very happy to offer advice and information to our guests. We have also made a web-site which describes the apartment in detail; how to get here; Vollen village; suggestions for 1 - 2 hours trips, half day or full day trips from Vollen; local sport and recreation facilities; a calendar which tells about Norwegian and local events; and Norwegian food specialities available at our local supermarket. You can ask for the web address when you have registered your booking. Vollen is a very charming, peaceful village about 25 km south of Oslo. The origins of Vollen go far back to Viking times but in the last 20 years the village has grown considerably as many families have moved here to enjoy coastal village life, within half an hour's bus or ferryboat from the capital city. We now have many fascinating boutiques and workshops; a large grocery store; the Oslo fjord boat museum, which is at present looking forward to the return of Amundsen's Polar Ship "Maud"; and good and varied cafés and restaurants. Our personal favourites are Vito's restaurant beside the harbour and Olea Greek shop/café/take away in the village. But we can also enthusiastically recommend Café Oscar for wonderful bakes and cakes and the Sushi take-away right beside the supermarket. Our home is 5 minutes walk from the bus-stop. Depending on time of day, (many during rush-hours and always at least every half hour) there are frequent buses in the direction of Sandvika and Oslo. The bus ride takes 34 minutes from Vollen to The Royal Palace (Vika Atrium) in Oslo. The earliest bus from Vollen leaves at 05:02. The last bus returning from Oslo Bussterminal leaves at 00:01 and arrives in Vollen at 0:50. For most of the year, except when there is too thick ice on the fjord, the ferry boat sails from Vollen to Oslo (the quay beside Oslo Town Hall) at 06:13 & 07:18 & 08:23 each weekday morning. In the afternoon it leaves Vollen at (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) . The ferryboat leaves Aker Brygge (Oslo) at (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) on weekday mornings) and at 15:10 & 16:20 & 17:30on weekdays. The ferry does not run at weekends. In summer from about the 20th June to the beginning of the second week in August, the ferry has no weekday service but runs a service on Saturdays and Sundays. If you arrive in Norway at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, you can take either the local train or the airport train (Flytoget) to Sandvika station and then the bus 251 to Vollen. If arriving by car, you are welcome to park safely on our property. Parking in Oslo can be both difficult and expensive. Many guests prefer to leave their car here and visit Oslo by bus or ferry. Guests arriving by car should park beside the house to the left of the garage. There is very good wifi connection in the apartment. You can log on to our wifi (4Mbit) using the guest address SheepsInn. The password is given in the "Information for Guests" folder in the apartment.
