The Annex
A two bedroom self-contained cottage set in the East Sussex countryside, with views of the Fairlight Hall Estate and the English Channel. On a clear day you can see as far as Dungeness and the inter-lying beaches. Situated between the historic old fishing port of Hastings and the fortified hilltop town of Rye, on the A259. The Annex is next door to a family home within their established garden, to which guests have access. The nearest railway stations are Battle or Hastings. The Annex is a charming two bedroomed guest lodge with breathtaking views and set in a mature garden of Rhodedendrons, Camellias and scented roses. It is an extension of the owners' home and filled with paintings and books. Open the front door onto a well lit, open planned living space. The kitchen diner has been fitted with electric hob / oven, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, kettle and Nespresso machine. The dining table comfortably seats four. Relax in the living area on the sofa with the television, or while away the hours with a favourite board game or puzzle. The back door opens onto the garden, which is divided into areas of interest. Sit back and relax in the deckchairs near the pear trees to enjoy cocktails as the sun sets. The ground floor double bedroom has a separate shower room, with WC and basin. The windows downstairs are fitted with plantation shutters. To fully appreciate the views of the sea, climb the wooden spiral staircase to the twin bedroom upstairs. This room has its own en-suite bathroom with WC and basin. There is a television and desk. The double doors open onto a Juliet balcony, from which you can often see some distinctive Sussex cattle. White waffle dressing gowns and hair-dryers are in the bathrooms. The Annex has its own separate Wi-Fi system. Parking is either on the roadside or within the gated yard. Please note that the Annex is non smoking. Guests can park their car within the gated yard. They also have access to the garden. There is a separate Wi-Fi system for the Annex. I like to welcome the guests to The Annex in addition to leaving a typed letter with information pertaining to their visit, such as tide times or specific events. I can be contacted by email and by mobile. The Annex is perfectly situated for exploring old town Hastings and the Cinque Port of Rye. The local pub, the White Hart is within walking distance and the gastropub, the Two Sawyers is in Pett. Guests will need a car. Local taxi firms are available. There are buses into Rye and Hastings. Nearby train stations to London Charing Cross include Battle and Hastings. Car and cycle hire also available. Set in the middle of '1066 Country' there are castles (Hastings, Bodiam), abbeys (Battle), gardens (Great Dixter, Sissinghurst Castle, Pashley Manor), beaches (Pett Level, Rye, Camber Sands), stately homes (Batemans, Knole Park to name but two), art museums (Jerwood, De La Warr), bars, restaurants, cinemas (Kino, Odeon) and theatres (White Rock) to fill every waking hour, whether in full sun or a little shadow. Rye Nature Reserve is a must for bird watchers. Traces of dinosaurs and prehistoric forest can be found between Hastings and Pett Level beaches. Visit the Hawkhust Fish Farm to enjoy some coarse fishing, or spend time at Slap'n'dash painting or decorating. Other local activities available include horse riding, kite-surfing, sailing, exploring Rye Harbour in a rib and cycle hire. On a Friday, bounce the night away on trampolines at Urban Jump in nearby Heathfield. There are local beauty/health spas and vineyards to discover. On your way to Eastbourne and Brighton, stop off at Lewes, a treasure trove for antiques, or the Glyndebourne opera house in season. The Annex is approximately an hour from the Eurotunnel at Folkestone and so a shopping trip to France is totally feasible. A full information pack of where to shop and local events is in The Annex.
