During the winter months, the 3rd bedroom downstairs is not used as it not well heated. 3 night minimum. Our house is a majestic 14th century, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in the center of the sleepy hazelnut farming village of Carbognano (one hour north of Rome.) It is a 10 minute drive to the quiet and peaceful lake – Lago di Vico. The house has been beautifully restored, with minimal changes, to its original medieval character. The house is a spacious 1500sq feet suitable for 6-8 guests: 3 bedrooms; 2 bathrooms. All linens are provided; MP3 player docking station and speakers; kitchen is fully stocked, Italian style: Italian coffee maker; pots and pans; plates; glasses; silverware, stove, oven, refrigerator, freezer, microwave oven, and washing machine for laundry. There is a large living room with formal dining area and a Great Room with kitchen, informal dining area and sitting area. The house is in the center of town in a prominent location. The town of Carbognano is near several other lovely hillside towns all worth visiting: Ronciglione, Sutri, San Martino al Cimino; Caprarola and many more. Northern Lazio is ancient in its history and architecture. The climate is mild and the countryside is green and lush. Despite these many rich attributes and its close proximity to Rome, Northern Lazio remains largely undiscovered by tourists. It is still easily and best explored by car. Also nearby is Lago di Bracciano, about 45 minutes south. Along its shores is the hillside castle town of Bracciano and the inviting beach town of Trevignano. Lago di Bolsena, another beautiful lake, is 45 minutes to the north. Although there is a bus from Carbognano to the train station which goes into the center of Rome, it is recommended that you bypass the bus and drive to one of the many train stations, park there and take the train directly into Rome. Or, if you’re feeling brave, you can drive into Rome – park at the Villa Borghese public parking and also find yourself right in the center of Rome. The city of Viterbo, a university town of over 60,000, is approximately a 20 minute drive from Carbognano. The city has a spectacular historical medieval center and all the shopping amenities of a big city. It is also the home to several natural spas. Tarquinia, along the Mediterranean Sea, (1 1/2 hour drive) is home to the famous Etruscan necropolises (6,000 tombs) and The National Etruscan Museum. Orvieto, Spoleto, Perugia and Assisi, all in Umbria, are doable day trips from Carbognano. Siena and Florence are each a 2 1/2 hour drive.
