Moongate Cottage - Renovated 18th century cottage
Lovely old stone cottage recently renovated to a high standard, located in a quiet village within easy reach of the Wye Valley, Hereford and the Marches and the Forest of Dean. A great base from which to explore the surrounding area, Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye just a short drive away, with all amenities for self-catering. Surrounded by woodland and nature with walks in every direction from your doorway. Private access is from the lane and there is a private garden for your use, which is fully fenced. Off road parking is on the owners' driveway which is adjacent. The double bedroom is downstairs with en suite shower, basin and toilet. The upstairs bedroom has twin beds. The main shower room with second toilet is downstairs and also houses the washer/dryer in a built-in unit. A cottage with lots of character, with some low ceilings. The staircase to the second bedroom is steep with a bend as shown in the photographs - it would not be suitable for someone with mobility problems. The ground floor is all on one level and both bathrooms are located here. The bathrooms both have showers, toilet and basin. A cosy living area with two sofas, wood burning stove and TV, fully equipped kitchen with Rayburn cooker & boiler, induction hob, microwave combi oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Outside is an oak porch with surrounding flagstone patio and lawn with ample seating and charcoal BBQ. I am a retired NHS theatre nurse, with a passion for gardening, usually found in a flowerbed somewhere around the garden. I keep chickens and bees (not next to the rental property!) and also have a variety of four legged friends, including two adorable mini Shetland ponies. Guests are welcome to come into the main garden by arrangement, to visit the pond and see the animals. Storage can be provided for cycles/kayaks/canoes etc. upon request and prior arrangement. The property is set in a quiet hamlet, accessed only by a no through road so traffic is light. The village is intertwined with common land which is mostly mature beech wood and criss-crossed with pathways. Set at the top of a hill, there are wonderful views across Herefordshire to Shropshire, the Malvern Hills and the Black Mountains. There are activities for all in the area - hiking, kayaking, climbing and cycling are just a few - lots of history in local castles such as Skenfrith, Raglan and Goodrich - Hereford with its beautiful cathedral and Mappa Mundi. The local towns of Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are just 10-15 minutes drive away with a good variety of shops and supermarkets. The property is only 10 minutes from Monmouth with its A40 dual carriageway linking quickly to South Wales and the M4, or M50 to the Midlands.
