Thank you for looking at Ansari House! We are a family-run homestay located in Sujata Village (also called Bakraur Village), which is right across the river from Bodh Gaya and a short walk to Mahabodhi Temple (where Buddha attained enlightenment). We have a spacious three-story house with a large rooftop area where you can enjoy views of Mahabodhi Temple, Bodh Gaya town, and Sujata / Bakraur Village. This listing is for a private room for 1-2 people; you may use the shared bathroom. Our home is located in Sujata Village (also known as Bakraur Village), a quiet village just across the river from Mahabodhi Temple (which features the Bodhi Tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment). We have a spacious open-air rooftop where guests are welcome to hang out, eat fresh homemade meals, and enjoy the views of Mahabodhi Temple, Bodh Gaya town, and Sujata / Bakraur Village. All of our bathrooms have hot water 24 hours a day. We also offer clean drinking water (water is both filtered and boiled) and free wifi access. Please note this is a homestay, so you would be living with our family in your own private room. You may use the shared bathroom on the same floor, which has a shower stall and two Indian-style toilets. Please we provide pillows and bedsheets for your room, but towels, soap, and toilet paper are not included. You may enjoy our large rooftop, where you can have your meals and enjoy the views of Mahabodhi Temple and Bodh Gaya town. You may also use the shared bathrooms in our home. You can also walk around Sujata / Bakraur Village (it is very safe) and our crop fields in the back of the house. We are a very warm and welcoming family, but would respect your desire to have as much or as little interaction with us as you'd like. As a native of Sujata Village who has lived here for over 25 years, I would be happy to tell you about the area and advise you on sights to see once you arrive. You are also welcome to order food from our kitchen, where everything is fresh and made-to-order. All of our vegetables come from our garden and the other ingredients we use are fresh from the local market. Our home is located in Sujata / Bakraur Village in the state of Bihar. Bodh Gaya and Sujata / Bakraur Village is one of the four sacred places of Buddhism. Sujata / Bakraur Village is the place where Sujata lived, the woman that fed Gautama Siddhartha with milk and rice shortly before he attained enlightenment. A stupa dedicated to Sujata has been erected in our village. When Sujata fed the Buddha, he was about to die of starvation after the six years of meditation he spent into the Mahakala cave. The cave is 20 kilometers from Ansari House and possible to visit. Siddhartha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya. There is now a temple which you can visit for free (Mahabodhi Temple). Those three sites are the main ones to see because they are involved in the story of Buddha but there are also many other temples to visit in Bodh Gaya. Sujata / Bakraur Village is on the other side of the river of Bodh Gaya. You have to go to Bodh Gaya downtown to visit the main sites, which is 10 minutes by foot if you cross the river, 20 minutes by foot if you go by the bridge, and 5 minutes by tuktuk (30 ₹). From Gaya city center, go south by the river side. Once in Bodh Gaya, turn left on the bridge to go to Sujata village (Bakraur) which is slightly at the east of Bodhgaya. After the bridge turn right and go south for 300 meters. You are now just in front of the Ansari house. This is few tips if you need to move from Ansari house to : - Bus / train station (Gaya) : 15 km by tuktuk : min 200 ₹ / max 300 ₹ - Bodhgaya center : 1,5 kilometer by tuk tuk : min 20 ₹ / max 50 ₹ - Mahakala cave : 20 km by jeep : round trip ticket around 1700 ₹ Please note that Ansari House is a home where my wife and I are raising 18 orphans alongside our four biological children. These orphans come from all over the Indian state of Bihar; many were given up by their families due to extreme financial poverty. The money you spend at Ansari House goes directly to help clothe, feed, and educate these 18 children. Additionally, we are setting up a small clinic on the ground floor of the house to help serve the local community. We warmly welcome travelers from all over the world into our home.
