The Garden Room at The Old Bakehouse. Self contained with independent access we have everything you need for a comfortable stay - high quality bedlinen; en suite bathroom; Nespresso machine; sunny breakfast space. On the edge of the Chilterns, a short drive from Tring Station, three trains an hour to London. Local attractions include Whipsnade Zoo, Tring Museum, The Making of Harry Potter at Leavesden Studios, Bletchley Park, Waddesdon Manor and the Ashridge Estate. The Old Bakehouse was built around 1840 and The Garden Room was converted in 2018 from our office and shed. The bed is a handmade four poster UK king size with new Caspar mattress and good quality bedlinen, bedside lights, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine, Sophie Conran crockery. Please note there is no kitchen. While the threat of Covid 19 remains we do provide individual shower gel, but we think you will prefer to bring your own toiletries under the circumstances. We have a child's travel cot and a child's inflatable bed, but there's not much room, although children are welcome. Before our time the privies for all five cottages in the row (now only two) stood where The Garden Room is now. The Bakehouse was a two storey wooden building added on to the row, housing a communal oven for the cottages to reduce the risk of fire. In the 1980s the privies were rebuilt as the Office and the Shed, which we now call The Garden Room, and the Bakehouse was converted to the current main house sitting room and master bedroom. Access to Old Bakehouse is by foot from Chequers Lane along a short path in front of the adjoining house and through the gate pictured. Parking is in the street right outside. We'll make sure the nearest space is available for you. We are happy for dogs to stay so long as they have their own bed with them. Although everything is at ground floor level we are not DDA compliant. Please feel free to enjoy the garden Although we will be on site, at home in The Old Bakehouse, until the end of the coronavirus crisis we ask our guests to come and go independently, using the keys in the keybox. We have regretfully suspended breakfast service, and instead provide for a DIY breakfast of juice, cereal and toast, with the existing self service tea and coffee. There is no kitchen, but there is crockery and cutlery and a cool box for any picnic you may bring, or local takeaway such as the excellent Woodz pizza, fish and chips from the pub, or Indian at the Haldi restaurant. Our meticulous cleaning and laundry routine goes beyond the Airbnb coronavirus best practice guidelines to additionally leaving a clear minimum of 24 hours between guests, rotating bedding so that more than 72 hours is left between users, and minimising soft furnishings . The villages of Pitstone and Ivinghoe are at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. The modern Pitstone Green business park is a short walk away, but the most famous landmarks are Pitstone windmill and Ivinghoe Beacon. This is an excellent location for walkers, just a short step up to the Ridgeway national long distance footpath, ending at Ivinghoe Beacon, or the National Trust's Ashridge Estate 5000 acres of beech woodland. If you prefer to stay on the level, the Grand Union Canal and its subsidiaries can take you on the towpath to Tring Reservoirs or the nearby market towns of Wendover, Aylesbury, Leighton Buzzard and Berkhamsted. Just round the corner in Pitstone there is a village shop, take away wood-fired pizzeria and Chinese restaurant. In Ivinghoe there is the local award winning Haldi Indian restaurant, CuriosiTea coffee shop and tea room, the Rose and Crown Pub and one of 'Britain's finest restaurants' The Kings Head. there is also a pharmacy, post office and shop. Nearby in Tring there are three top class restaurants including Crockers Chef's Table. Pendley Manor and Ashridge House both popular wedding venues are a short drive away. Tring Station is 3 miles away and three trains an hour run to London Euston (40 minutes) and a fourth to west London via Westfield shopping centre to Clapham Junction. Cheddington Station is nearer and can be walked to in 40 minutes, but the train service is only hourly. Northbound, local trains run to Bletchley and Milton Keynes on a similar schedule. Exploring by car can take you to Whipsnade Zoo, 15 minutes away, the Harry Potter studios, (30 minutes easy drive), Tring Museum, an outpost of the London Natural History Museum (10 minutes). Oxford is 30 miles away, Milton Keynes 20 miles, and the world famous Bicester Village Designer Outlet 26 miles. Although we will be on site, at home in The Old Bakehouse, until the end of the coronavirus crisis we ask our guests to come and go independently, using the keys in the keybox.
