Unique Log Cabin in Private Glen!

4 mi from downtown Lexington on 250 ac of beauty-full Shenandoah farmland with gorgeous views. This log cabin, early 1900s, was remodeled as the landowner's personal retreat. The unique cabin sits in its own private glen & has 2 large verandas. The Great Room is filled with natural light by the surrounding windows, has a Knabe grand piano & 2 fireplaces. The kitchen has a poured-in-place concrete counter, quality appliances & is fully outfitted. No one nearby to disturb the silence! Magical This cabin is a unique space lovingly remodeled & added onto several years ago. It is our largest & most modern cabin in addition to our personal retreat space, therefore it has some decor that is upgraded from what might normally be here. Perfect for 1-2 adults, no children, no pets. Two verandas & a side deck each with chairs for relaxing were added to the once small cabin. A great room was added with lots of windows & glass doors, comfy sofas, large chairs. stone fireplace & a grand piano. There is no Wi-Fi on this side of our farm & there is no cable for TV. The flat screened TV is set up for DVDs & computer compatibility. There are two fireplaces here for a touch of luxury with the mantels cut from our managed timber. Our split wood is cut only from fallen trees & leftover lumber from farm construction. You will find this cabin in its own private glen with a large mown meadow, a Meso-American Pyramidal Stone Love Seat, a natural sink hole we call The Chalice Grove & a long private entry drive. Perfect setting for a totally quiet relaxing time here. We hope that you will love this glen & magical cabin as much as we do! Guests are invited to walk on the fire roads & walking paths on the 250 acres. There are some breathtaking panoramic views, a modern day labyrinth & much wildlife to enjoy. Our farm is above the confluence of the South & the Maury Rivers. Across from the entry road to cabin is an access to the Chessie Trail - a 7 mile walking/jogging trail between Lexington & Buena Vista. The cabin is close to many attractions, an AT trail head, the Blue Ridge Pkwy, VA Horse Ctr, Natural Bridge plus many others. We ask that the guests in the other cabins are respected by keeping your viewing etc at a distance. If you walk on the farm and/or to the hilltop please be sure you leave plenty of daylight for your return trip & take a good flashlight. All our cabins & studios are 'self catering' spaces. We have no interaction with guests unless requested. We honor your desire for quiet & privacy. You may see or hear the mower on some days or see general maintenance being handled. If you are lucky to be here when the hayfields is being harvested you are in for a treat! We are only a phone call away. We love the tranquility, abundant wildlife, the character of the cabins & the drop-jaw vistas from most anywhere on the farm. The top of the farm has a hilltop called Mount Grace. On it is the State of Grace sacred circle with a modern day labyrinth recently completed. Geometric sculptures, the 'Geometries of Love', have been placed inside the circle. This farm is a perfect place for many attractions, an AT trailhead, the VA Horse Ctr, Natural Bridge, downtown Lexington & much much more! A car is a must here. In the case of snowy weather you will want to be driving a car that is fine on a slight grade of dirt & gravel. We have the farm roads plowed if the snow is more than a few inches. The county plows the roads soon after heavy snowfalls though you will want to give us a call for updates. We rent all year & winter offers a special quiet that many love. A car really is a necessary unless, of course, someone delivers you & you do not need to leave the farm before being picked up. NOTE: Guests need to be comfortable with the dark, the country & from perceived separation from civilization. One can often see the Milky Way without interference from city lights! We do our best to be good country neighbors & 'keep the country in the country' by asking that all outdoor lights be turned off at night. Bring a good flashlight & comfy shoes. The cabin is supplied with 'starter' coffee, teas, cocoa, condiments, dish soap, paper towels & toilet paper etc. If you need more than we provide you will find a grocery store only a few miles from the cabin. Our gift to you is a bottle of wine. If you do not wish to have one please let us know beforehand. We know that everyone does not drink alcohol & might prefer to not have it around. ** The electric panel, should you need it, is in the homeowner's closet in the great room.
