Time for you… Situated down a quiet lane in the rural Somerset village of Pitney, is the old cider press of a 1750’s Georgian village house. The stone barn features comfortable, premium quality fittings, the secluded courtyard, the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or al fresco meal. Right in the middle of the beautiful Somerset Levels the accommodation lends itself to experiencing the many special places of interest in this historical and magical area. Bike storage in property. Note: Rest assured the accommodation is very clean and sanitised as I like to live like this myself, not least in these times. Please note reviews. I hope to make your stay as lovely as possible. I provide some tea and coffee and a small jug of organic milk for a drink upon arrival to get you settled. The Press has all the best quality fittings including a DeVol kitchen, Everhot Stove, Fired Earth tiling, (Website hidden by Airbnb) beds, Sanderson and Susie Watson fabrics... all designed to enhance your time here. The beds are super comfy being extra wide and with double duvets. I wish for you to experience a relaxing and memorable stay, experiencing all this fantastic area has to offer. The large skies, peace and quiet will help you relax and recharge. In easy walking distance, Pitney has its renowned village pub, the Halfway House, also the Pitney Organic Farm shop and the Pitney Cafe (excellent for breakfast or coffee and cake!) , plus a playing field with new fitness course opposite the house. The house and gardens are undergoing a bit of a ‘re-design’ with the garden being very much geared towards wildlife conservation. I have bats, dragonflies as well as lots of butterflies and moths. Often during the winter from the end of October to the start of March, you can see flocks of starlings heading over to Ham Wall where they can be seen doing their famous murmurations. A must see! We are close to Millfield school so great for stopovers too. So sorry but unsuitable for anyone where steps would be an issue due to nature of the old building. There is a good sized bedroom with extra wide twin beds and double duvets for added comfort. For flexibility of guests these can be pushed together or moved apart depending on preference. Private downstairs (good size) shower room with large shower, kitchenette/lounge, dining/study space and sunny courtyard. I am on site for any emergencies. However, I have two collies, one old and one young, though well behaved and quiet, will be nippy if you come into the private garden. Best to knock on the front but door if there are any issues. Do note however, that sometimes I will be unavailable as I will be running yoga classes at the studio in the house and therefore unable to deal with enquires until i finish teaching. You are welcome to book a class with me space permitting. Cost is 10 pounds per class or 121s at request. Pitney has a super, renowned pub and an organic farm shop with cafe all in easy walking distance. The latter makes a good stop for breakfast, or coffee and cake. There is a beautiful, historical church in the village and one also in Low Ham called ‘The Church in the Field’ - a remnant from an old Manor House no longer standing. This area has many churches of note. A Roman villa was found near this site between the two villages as filmed by Time Team. Another Roman Villa was found towards Somerton, which is a beautiful, historical village; the ancient capital of Wessex. Langport, once an important and thriving port, is close by with very good cafes and bakeries, ‘The Wharf’ in particular, is worth a visit. The river Parrett is rather special where you can get boat rides or hire canoes. There is a cycle trail (with bike hire) in Langport, heading towards Mulchelney, or stunning circular walks. Here, are the famous John Leach pottery and the Muchelney Abbey remains. Heading the other way towards Glastonbury and Street, about 20 minutes by car, you have all that they have to offer, including Clark’s Village Designer shopping outlet. A little further in Shepton Mallet is Kilver Court, another designer shopping retail outlet noted for Mulberry bags. National Trust places abound, with notable Montacute House, Barrington Court and Lytes Cary to name a few. Further afield is Bruton with the famous Hauser and Wirth gallery and ‘The Chapel’ a restaurant/cafe where you are likely to see a famous face or two... This mid Somerset area is known for its many festivals. There is always something going on. something social and something fun. Being here in the middle of the Somerset means everything is readily accessible. Having come from Sussex, I have found the area to have a slower pace of life, where people have more time to stop for friendly chats and are less driven by the rat race. Creativity abounds... Millfield senior school is 20 minutes away, max, whilst the prep school is less than 30 minutes drive. Rookery Press is a handy stopover if you are visiting your child or children during their time boarding. We are half way between Somerton and Langport not far off the A303, by Pitney church. The best way to get to the property directly is to drive although satnav will only take you so far...Best to check on Maps prior to arriving. There is a bus stop at the top of the village near the Halfway House pub; so called as halfway between Somerton and Langport! The nearest stations would be at either Taunton or Castle Cary. Being mainly a flattish area it is good for easy cycling. The Levels have many ‘droves’ which are mainly free from traffic and from which to explore the beautiful countryside. You may even see some of the re-reintroduced cranes that are now breeding in the area. No smoking anywhere on the property - thank you. Also I am fully committed to animal/wildlife conservation - even down to insects. If you find any in your accommodation during your stay that are ‘unwelcome’ please do not kill them but release them outside. I will always be happy to help with this!
