Cozy Cottage on the Madawaska River

Great for family vacations. The private(non public) beach is shared with the main cottage. The water has easy entry and there is a dock for jumping off into the river or fishing for the catch of the day. The swimming area, with sand bottom and areas of both sun and shade, is suited to all ages. The cottage is rustic with all conveniences: a fully equipped kitchen, BBQ, sunroom, patio for relaxing on the deck and a private outdoor fire pit. The rental also includes access to a canoe. The property is furnished and includes a queen bed in bedroom 1, bunk bed with a double and single bed in bedroom 2, pull-out couch in the shared space, dining table with 4 chairs, kitchen appliances (fridge, stove, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, microwave), cooking and kitchenware, and initial supplies of household items (toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, etc.). Bathroom amenities include soap, shampoo, conditioner, and hairdryer. There is a BBQ and picnic table for your use. A screened in porch lets you enjoy the sunsets on rainy days. A small porch is just steps away from your private fire pit. The large space surrounding the cottage provides ample room for outdoor games. The rental also includes access to a canoe (equipped with safety kit, 2 adult and 1 child life jacket). The public boat launch, grocery store, ice-cream store and Bent Anchor Bar and Grill is a 15 minute canoe trip up the Madawaska River. There are miles of boating available along the Madawaska River which connects into many bodies of water, including Kamaniskeg Lake, Blackfish Bay, Negeek Lake and Conroy’s Marsh The cottage is a 4 minute drive into Combermere to a Farmer’s Market open from June to August, a convenience store, laundromat, coffee shop, good Kawartha ice-cream and public boat launch, or a 15 minute drive into Barry’s Bay. Close attractions: - Crooked slide park (5 min drive) with a picnic area and a full size replica log shoot - Hiking and ATV trails - Madonna House, run by Catholic nuns, with old books for sale and antiques from the area on exhibit - Palmer Rapids (12 min drive) has three little sets of rapids, body surfing spots, and pebble perfect for a day trip. - Madawaska Kanu Centre (25 min drive) for whitewater canoeying and kayaking on the Madawaska River for the whole family - Wilno (25 min drive) is a Polish pioneer community. - Eganville for Bonnechere Caves (1 hr drive) - Algonquin Provincial Park (1 hr drive) Owner is available and easy to reach by email, text or phone. The cottage is 3-season and does not have heat. It may be chilly during the month of May; however, we do provide a heater for the chillier nights.
