Westmore Estate II Contemporary Cave Gorgeous B&B
Immaculate bedroom close to an oval king bedroom on 1st floor of a large, architect-designed home on 6 private landscaped acres. The bathroom, renovated in 2019, may be shared on rare occasions. There is lots of light despite there being no real window (there is a large faux window with remote-controlled LED lighting)! Continental breakfast served from 7:30-9:00 AM except for extended stay guests. $50,000 renovation of patio, pool, tennis court & fire bowl. Covid vaccinations required. The "cave" is for one to two adults. It is newly redecorated with an extremely comfortable queen bed, new chair, artwork, lighting and granite-topped dresser. There is a brand new 30” Smart TV using Roku and Xfinity for channel access. If the nearby oval bedroom is available and you wish to rent two rooms for another person or couple, then you would have the whole floor to yourselves and 2-4 people sharing a bath would be quite comfortable. You have access to a beautifully decorated powder room upstairs. Note: This is a downstairs room so guests may hear footsteps above, despite the sound attenuating batting in the ceiling. Guests are aware this is a private residence inhabited by a married couple together 42 years, 39 of which were in this home. Although guests can expect privacy in their rooms, the common areas, e.g. pool, hot tub, patio and fire bowl areas are shared spaces and as such guests should not expect private use of those amenities. Checkin/checkout times are firm (3 pm and 10 AM respectively), but early checkin or late checkout until 3 PM may be possible for a fee of 1/2 the room charge. Guests must present a valid, government-issued picture ID on checkin and must submit copies of full covid vaccination record. Only registered guests are allowed on the property. Guests may not invite or have guests of their own without having them registered at the time of the reservation. Guests use a separate private entrance on the east wing of the home. Guests must be able to navigate 3 short staircases of 6 steps each. You will have access to an architect designed swimming pool, hot tub and tennis court during the pool season, 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM at no extra cost. There is a beautiful sculptor-created fire bowl which is also available with firewood costing $20 per bundle. There is also a treadmill in the solarium which is freely available to guests upon request. Your hosts are two married doctors who love to host. Dr. Sam is a retired family physician with over 30 years of practice and Dr. Ken is a semi-retired clinical psychologist. The couple have two grown children who do not live in the home, a recent CIA graduate who manages a restaurant in VA and a software developer also living in VA. Drs Ken & Sam love engaging with our guests in the AM over breakfast and from reading our reviews, we understand our guests enjoy our company in the mornings. Otherwise, we are available as needed and desired and respect guests' need for privacy. Guest rooms are on a separate floor and in a separate wing from the rooms occupied by the hosts. Drs. Ken & Sam are fluent in French and Swedish and conversant in American Sign Language and love guests from other countries. We appreciate diversity and enjoy mingling with all different kinds of people from all different backgrounds. The neighborhood is suburban although the feel on the property is rural as you can't see any other homes from our home. We border a 128 acre farm yet we're only a mile from a major road (York Rd) which connects Baltimore City with Pennsylvania. Shopping and restaurants are close. Having a car is a must although Dr. Ken can pick up guests from the Light Rail for a reasonable charge. Prior to making a reservation prospective guests must be fully vacc against Covid 19 and provide a copy of their official vaccination record . Our place is safe and feels like we are way out in the country because we border a 126 acre farm and our house is set way back off the road. Yet, we are close to a Baltimore Light Rail stop, the Hunt Valley Towne Centre, I-83 and a 25 minute drive north from Harborplace in downtown Baltimore. Drs. Ken & Sam have lived on the property for 40 of their 43 year history as a couple and raised both our children here from birth (read Dr. Ken's book: Getting Simon: Two Gay Doctors' Journey to Fatherhood (Bramble Books, 1995). Check-in is at 3 PM and checkout is firmly by 10 AM. WiFi network is for the exclusive use of the guests. The secure network is: "10815 Guest." The password will be shared once registration is confirmed. Please note discounted extended stays do not include breakfast. Laundry facilities are available for extended stay guests at a modest fee with guests providing detergent/dryer sheets etc. Note: we have a second, large oval bedroom down the hall from the Contemporary Cave bedroom listed on Airbnb (see Westmore Estate I listing) in case you were traveling with another one or two adults. Although both listings show a shared bathroom, it is almost never actually shared as it is very rare that both our bedrooms are taken at the same time. On the VERY rare occasions that both rooms are rented at the same time, then both parties will share the bathroom between them. That said, there is a gorgeous powder room upstairs which can be exclusively used by the Contemporary Cave guests. There is another full bathroom upstairs which may be used by the Contemporary Cave guests if they prefer not to share the bathroom. There is also a powder room upstairs.
