CFCB cabin retreat minutes from Duke, NCCU, & UNC
Cozy, wheelchair-accessible, recently renovated cabin with unique decor and a sitting porch, located in a beautiful, mature, piedmont forest that abounds with wildlife and has hiking trails along New Hope Creek. Ideal for a quiet retreat but only 8 minutes from UNC Hospital, Hillsborough Campus and within 15 to 25 minutes from Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University and historic downtown Hillsborough. Guests of all walks of life welcome. There is a campfire circle a short walk from the cabin. Also available for guests to use is a picnic shelter that overlooks New Hope Creek and an adjacent small basketball court. You'll be able to access the entire cabin except for the closet to the left of the bed. It contains cleaning supplies and equipment and access to the workshop in the basement. Because of incomplete projects and equipment in the workshop, it is off limits to guests unless accompanied by Jim or Libba. Our house is near the cabin, so we are easily accessible most of the time. We can adjust our contact with you depending on what you need during your stay. On our property there are moderately difficult hiking trails; and within a 10 to 15 minutes drive, there are numerous, public, hiking trails, including the Mountains to the Sea Trail and the trails of Occoneechee Mountain, Brumley Forest, Duke Forest, Johnson Mill Nature Preserve, Eno River State Park, and Blackwood Farm Park. Historic Hillsborough is a 15 minute drive and has a fine selection of locally-owned restaurants, art galleries, and music venues. Ice cream on the front porch of Maple View Farm is a short five minute drive. Best to have car transportation for local attractions, but walking is great for the adjacent trails. While there is bed space for 3 guests, a fourth person could be accommodated on the longer couch. The cabin began as a shop when we were building our house in 1986 and later became a group space for our mental health practice which we have called the Center for Creative Balance. Now, mostly retired, we have loved converting this space to share with guests who love the land and want a restful retreat!
