Otter Lodge Inn, simply known as Otter Inn, is our converted barn, now serving as a 2 bedroom, 2 bath guesthouse. Situated on 9 wooded acres on the north branch of the Boardman River in Kalkaska, Michigan, the location is ideal for those looking to enjoy the many tourist destinations that Up North Michigan has to offer or for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a peaceful retreat. The tourist attractions of Traverse City, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix and Grayling are all in visiting distance from Otter Inn. But if being a tourist is not what you have in mind, our guesthouse is in the Pere Marquette Forest. It is a 4 mile drive on our well maintained dirt road to get to the Inn, but the destination is well worth the drive. Bicyclists, especially anyone training for the Iceman Challenge will find our location ideal. The North Country Hiking Trail was recently extended to our area and is literally a single step off the back of our property line. The Sand Lakes Quiet area is very nearby for more of the best hiking. Guernsey Lake is a short drive where you can drop in a boat and fish all day. The Boardman River is crystal clear, cool and refreshing. Idle away the afternoon walking the river in search of beautiful stones, fishing for brown trout or just sitting and listening. We think you will find Otter Inn to be a wonderful escape from your daily routine! Our property is 1/4 mile of meandering river front. Situated on a peninsula, tubing is fun to do over and over again for kids of all ages. Or grab a great book and a cooler of beverages and plan to wile away the hours on our private beach. Watch the river come and go while relaxing at the pergola on the peninsula. We feel fortunate that we can totally embrace Michigan's State Motto, "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you." We live next door and will be available to our guests most of the rental year. Our "neighborhood" is unique in that we are a limited number of homes in the Pere Marquette State Forest where "A River Runs Through It" and we are completely surrounded by state land and wild life. In 2019 we were thrilled when The North Country Hiking Trail was extended to our area. In fact, the trail can be accessed directly off the back of our property or by walking 1/4 mile down our road and stepping on. It is a great addition and many of our guests have enjoyed it this past summer. Our guests are always treated to an immaculate home upon their arrival. Now that we have been impacted by the threats of Covid 19, you can rest assured that we have adopted the cleaning guidelines and disinfecting standards suggested by the CDC. We accommodate 6 at the Inn. Guests 5 and 6 have the option of using the pull out sofa in the living room, or, new to the 2021 season, we have added two single beds in the game room. Our She-La Shed, a tiny house that sits on the property of the primary residence, may have guests at the same time Otter Inn does. Between the two rentals, the most guests we will have on site at any given time is 8. We enjoy multiple accesses to the river. There's plenty of room and the ability to social distance should not be a concern.
