Fully self-contained, two air conditioned bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, fridge, flat screen TV, DVD player. The cottage sleeps six (master bedroom has a double bed, and second bedroom has 4 bunk beds). Beautifully appointed with yester-year country decor, it blends with the surrounds and will complete your country escape. Take a step back in time at the Cottage. There's so much to do, and nothing to do here where the stars twinkle brighter at night and city noise is a distant memory. Relax and enjoy the misty mornings and warm afternoons on the jetty. The lake offers so much more than a tranquil backdrop where you can row the tinny out for a spot of fishing (bass, yellow belly, catfish just to name a few) or take the kayaks out for a paddle. Take a stroll down to the Albert River for a picnic, play some golf rough 4 hole course or tennis (full size court), fly a kite, there is plenty of room for the kids to run, bring your push bikes or just take time out to revitalise. There are 5 houses on the property plus 2 workers donga's. The farmstay cottage was built approximately 1880 and has been restored to original condition. The farm has 4 klms of all weather roads throughout which are sign posted. Visitors may view livestock (cattle and horses) by driving along the extraction road. Please stay in your vehicle and on the all weather road. Spiddal was originally settled by Michael and Anne Yore (nee Ryan) in 1865. Both Michael and Anne emigrated from Ireland as a result of the potato famine and uprising at that time. Anne sailing on the Erin-Go-Bragh (Ireland forever) in 1862 and Michael on the Fiery Star in 1863. On Michael's death in 1912 the farm passed to the youngest son Andrew Thomas who died at a young age of 33 in 1916. The Spiddal property was then held in trust until his son Thomas Patrick (TP) became of age in 1935. In 1966 TP transferred title of the property to the present owner Thomas John (TJ). Tom's son Denis 5th generation resides on the property and assists with the running of the farm. From settlement in 1865 the farm has been used for Primary production mainly dairying, pigs, hay and grain activities. After dairying ceased in 1970 the property has been producing beef cattle, turf and hay. Irrigation is a major activity on the farm with 4 electric pumps connected to 5 klms of underground mainline allowing the entire farm to be irrigated. On farm storage dam's 1 x 6 acre and a second 16 acre surface area have virtually drought proofed the property. In 1982 an Extractive Industry permit (mining) was obtained from local Council. In 2013 the Queensland Government Mining Department placed a Key Resource Area condition over the Spiddal property ie. mining over virtually all of the property. TJ had this area reduced significantly to approximately 130 acres thus leaving the property not sterile after mining which is estimated to continue for approximately 75 years. The resulting void from sand mining will be used as a water reservoir for primary production for future generations. The original Inhabators occuping the Tamborine area were the Wangerriburra Native tribe. They lived in peace with all the tribes adjacent to their own area. More importantly they were prepared to be friendly to the white man in the early stages of development, with respect shown by all.
