Wildlife Eco Stay
Bilyara Springs is a Wildlife Eco Stay - the property is a 320 acre area covered by a "Trust For Nature" covenant and a "Bush Returns" covenant. It is nestled in the foothills of the Strathbogie ranges. We are regenerating our land back to native bushland and now have a multitude of wildlife and birdlife moving in. We have the Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Swamp Wallaby's, Wombats, Koalas, Possums (both brush tailed and ring tailed), Echidnas and the endangered Brush Tailed Phascogale. There are also over 90 species of native birds which live on/or seasonally visit the property including the great Wedge Tailed Eagle who soars above our bluffs and rarer birds such as the Rufus Night Heron and the Barking Owl (but only if you are keen on night walks). Frogs, snakes and lizards are also resident at certain times of the season and if you are here when the Pobble Bonk Frogs are mating - you better bring earplugs. Please note - As there are 2 dogs, horses on the property, and a large dam close by we would prefer not to accommodate children due to any risk. Feel free to stroll over the property, canoe and swim in the dams, relax and enjoy the movies on the TVIX box and please bring your guitars if music is your thing! We also live on the property so will be available to answer any questions you may have. We are only a short distance from the Bicycle Rail Trail and for a small fee will drive you and your bicycles to Mansfield or Alexandra and you can ride back to Merton. You are welcome to explore our 320 acre property with views to Mt Buller to the east and Cathedral ranges to the south. There is an abundance of wildlife and you can swim in our large dam close to the unit or paddle the canoe around the wetlands where you may catch sight of the resident rakali. The property is about 15 minute drive to the lovely Gooram Falls and 30 minute drive to the Mt Wombat Nature Reserve, about the same distance to lake Eildon ,at Bonnie Doon, and about a 90 minute drive to the Alpine National Park (Mt Buller). The Goulburn river close to Alexandra offers trout fishing .
