'The Pickers Cottage' at Mount Ophir Estate

On an iconic estate in Rutherglen, 'The Pickers Cottage' is a large house overlooking the sun-drenched paddocks. There are 6 bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom, a large family/living area and kitchen. Whilst the house can accommodate 20 guests, parties and events are not allowed. Mount Ophir Estate was established in 1891 as a winery and farm. Its iconic buildings are currently being lovingly restored into accommodation and private event spaces. The castle building was established in 1903 and is one of the most interesting structures built in Australia. As a guest of the estate, you are able to access the whole property for long walks, bike riding, reading and fishing. We ask kindly that you do not feed or try to pat the animals on the estate. Please park your cars neatly away from the house and farm gates. Minimal interaction but available if needed. The town of Rutherglen is five minutes drive from Mount Ophir Estate and has fantastic amenities such as a fabulous wine bar, Thousand Pound, the famous Parkers Pies and a great IGA. You can choose to travel by car, mountain bike, hire car, bus or taxi. The Rutherglen information centre can be contacted for further information or special tours. Mount Ophir Estate has various houses and we ask our guests to be considerate to other guests on the property and our neighbours. Please do not light fires outside at any time of the year as it is a serious fire risk. We are a working farm, so we ask politely for you to look after the environment and leave minimal waste.
