Eco-cabin sleeps 6 walk to surf

Couran Retreat is an architect designed Eco cabin on South Stradbroke Island off the Gold Coast, Queensland. Nestled in Banksia forest and part of the Eco-cabin village within the Couran cove property. We are 10 minutes walk from Couran Cove resort to the West and 15 minutes walk from unspoiled surf beach to the East. Linen is provided along with basic provisions. (Details in information about the accommodation) The cabin has a rustic simplicity but plenty of mod cons. 2 bedrooms and a sleep out are set up with Qeen bed, double bed/divan and 2 single beds, so sleeps 6 comfortably. An extra divan and fold out ottoman in the living area provides extra beds by negotiation. All linen is provided and beds are made up prior to guest arrival. Self catering is easy as all kitchenware is provided. There is a pantry stocked with basic condiments, gas cooktop, slow cooker and a microwave oven. The cabin is a 10 minute walk from where the boat arrives at Couran Cove Resort. Access is via a level paved pathway so you can transport provisions in a shopping trolley or backpack. Baggage transfer and/or transport can be arranged upon request. (Must be requested in advance.) We recommend self catering and suggest you plan ahead and shop on the mainland, please be aware that dining and shopping facilities in the island are extremely limited and can change at short notice. We provide some basic pantry provisions, including breakfast cereal, milk, tea, coffee, cooking oil and condiments. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements and we will do what we can to help. We ensure that beds are made up with fresh linen as per your booking. (Let us know the exact bedding configuration, only booked beds will be made up.) Bath towels are provided but please bring your own for the beach. The cabin is designed to keep cool in summer with louvre windows and ceiling fans. In the cooler months you can use our cosy gas fire to stay warm. You can even use our slow cooker to prepare a delicious hot soup to be ready after a day exploring the island! Swim safely in the resort pools, or paddle in the calm waters on the western side of the island or the spectacular surf beach to the east. Please note the beaches are not patrolled and care should be taken. Entertainment at Couran Retreat is about enjoying nature and the company of loved ones. Enjoy exploring kilometres of unspoiled bush and beach, sit on the verandah and watch the wallabies go by. The cabin has a television with USB port if you want some screen time. There is no vehicle transport on the island so walking is the best way to explore. If you prefer, you can ask about Bike hire through the resort, or bring your own bikes over. We recommend you bring your own pram or stroller for the smaller guests. Couran Retreat is the perfect blend of bush and beach, exercise and relaxation, luxury and environmentally responsible accommodation. Our guests are welcome to use anything they find at Couran retreat. Please treat it with respect and leave it as you found it. South Stradbroke Island is a little known and unique part of South East Queensland. It is primarily protected bushland with stunning white sandy surf beaches stretching from Jimpinpin in the north to the Gold Coast Spit in the south. The western side of the island is Boatie heaven with sheltered anchorages and many beautiful calm water beaches. Guests have access to the facilities of Couran Cove Resort and can also visit the other smaller resorts dotted along the Western Coast of the island. The island and the cabin surrounds is home to a wide range of native creatures, from the shy wallaby to the inevitable insects. The cabin is fully screened but we suggest you bring inspect repellant as well as sunscreen for your outdoor time. Other guests and permanent residents occupy the neighbouring Eco-cabins and there is a friendly, relaxed community feel. Please enjoy your peace and privacy, and respect that of your neighbours. 🙏 Transport to South Stradbroke is by boat. Couran Cove Resort ferry departs from the Gold Coast. Check with the resort for departure times and location. Zanes water Taxi departs from Runaway Bay Marina. Cove Water taxis departs from Sanctuary Cove. (private water taxi price is by negotiation.) Couran Cove Resort run ferries to the island, as do Tipplers Resort (you’ll need to specify that you are travelling to Couran Cove). Check with the provider for details. Alternatively if you have your own boat you may be able to arrange access and berth at the Couran Cove Resort Marina. Once on the island there are no private motor vehicles, getting around is by walking or bike riding. Couran Retreat is best enjoyed over several days although a quick break of 2 nights can be a lovely antidote to stressful city life. If you are planning a short break please take into account the fact that we are 10 minutes walk from the resort facilities and 10 minutes walk from the surf beach. You may want to hire bikes from the resort or bring your own to make getting around a bit quicker. Although it is nestled in the bush, our Eco-Cabin is not solitary. We are part of a “village” which includes both holiday makers and permanent residents. We ask guests to respect the peaceful enjoyment of other guests and residents. Couran Retreat is on an island off the Gold Coast, but it’s definitely NOT the Gold Coast! It could be costly and time consuming if you plan to spend some of your holiday “off island”. The cabin is fully screened and comfortable and right in the heart of the Banksia forest. Please treat the native animals and birds with respect and do not feed them.
