Old Farmhouse Property
Fully detached guest quarter on second floor with kitchen, living room, laundry room, full bathroom currently used as a one room school house for homeschooling. Located on a pre-civil war farm property with a beautiful 4.5 acres to explore. Outside there are free-range chickens and ducks, as well as a play area for kids. Close to Boeing Leadership Center, Migratory Bird Center, Historic Alton and Grafton, Il. Deck with dining table available. The main house on this property in the Old Jamestown area was built in 1859 by the James family. The guesthouse is across the driveway from the historic home and provides complete privacy for guests. The 4.5 acres is all cleared but ringed by trees. There is nothing but forest between this property and a view of the uninhabited Pelican island. Children love visiting because of the two play sets, tire swing, and numerous animals around the property: chickens (including some of the unusual silkie breed), and ducks. There are NO pets in the guest house. We can provide fresh eggs from our coop for breakfast. The second floor of the guesthouse, including deck, will be entirely available during your stay except for one room which is an art studio for our older children. (The first floor has a two-car garage and storage area which we use.) You are welcome to explore the 4.5 acre property, including the 7,000 square-foot garden. We live in the main house on the property and home school our children. So we will be available to answer your questions. If you have kids, we would love for our children to meet them! The street is private with all properties required to have 3 acres. So even though this is in St. Louis County, it feels rural and nestled away. Our neighbors across the street have cows! We have a “Guest Parking” sign in front of the apartment. Guest should park there if they have one car. Other spaces will be provided for other vehicles if needed. There’s a fully equipped laundry with iron and ironing board, detergent for washing as well as a dryer. Guests are welcome to use these.
