Hawa's Hideaway

A cozy little 1 bedroom apartment in the heart of a Tuscan hill town, perfect for a couple on a romantic retreat! Hawa's hideaway offers a bright bedroom, a little kitchen with a cozy dining area and a small bathroom. There is also a foldaway bed, so the apartment can be used by a small family of three people. I would consider Hawa's Hideaway as a charming Tuscan getaway!! Hawa's hideaway gets its name from my mom Hanna, her art name HAWA, who always used this apartment as a retreat from the city to do her painting. She lives near me now in my little village just outside of Bologna, unfortunately she no longer has the energy to paint and go to Gioviano anymore so I decided to name the place in her honour as it was her little jewel. This cozy little appartment is located at the top of the village in a charming little square. It is attached to the main house which I also have listed for larger groups. The apartment was renovated a few years ago and shows original stone wall detail in a typical Tuscan rustic style. The bedroom which sleeps 2 is very bright and spacious, there is a small bathroom with a shower, and a cozy little country style kitchen and sitting area. If you are a small family with a toddler, there is a baby cot which I can put in if necessary. Gioviano is a purely residential village so for shops and restaurants one must gown to the lower valley by car. If by chance my other listed house above the apartment is not occupied at the time of your stay, you can use the little private terrace just in front of the main house where you can sit outside, relax, and take in the fresh mountain air. Please remember to ask before using and I’ll let you know if it’s possible! During your stay you will be on your own! Basically that means you will have no annoying interferences seeing that I live in another city with my family. Usually my loyal helper Brigida will be there to greet you, give you the keys and explain all the necessary info regarding the house and your stay. Brigida only speaks Italian so I can also arrange self check-in. You can reach me by phone at all times for any extra info or for emergencies. We have a lot of friends in the village who will be able to interact immediately if there is a major problem but it's best to contact Me or Brigida right away if a problem arises. Thanks! Gioviano is considered to be a jewel to many travellers for its quiet and relaxing atmosphere, with breathtaking views of the Tuscan Garfagnana valley just below. Among the italian inhabitants , many foreigners have bought vacation houses in the village after having discovered its beauty and the hospitality of the italian locals. It takes just a few minutes to get down to the main road and have easy access to so many of the cultural and tourist attractions which this area has to offer. Medieval towns such as the well known Barga with its many cultural festivals and Bagni di Lucca with its thermal baths are less then a 20 minute drive away. You can enjoy walks just around Gioviano or further explore the many hiking trails in the nearby Apuan Alps or Appenini mountains. The beautiful city of Lucca with its’ ancient walls is only a 25 minute drive away and even Florence and Pisa are easy day trips. If you are a sea lover, enjoy the medditeranean “Versilia” coast all the way up to the well known “Cinque Terre” which are all at a more then reasonable distance. Since the apartment is located in the centre of the village in a “no car” zone, there is a walk uphill from the 2 parking lots which are attached to the town. Parking is never a problem and it is free. A car is absolutely necessary to reach the village but one can consider taking the train from the towns in the valley below to reach all the main tourist attractions such as Lucca, Pisa and Florence.
