If you are staying more than one night, you are welcome to use the kitchen to make your own meals, I can clear a shelf in the fridge on request. Off road parking space if required, but usually plenty of on road parking at rear of property. Located in a quiet residential area within 10-15 minutes walk of shops, pubs and restaurants. Trains & buses close by. Use of garden (which has seating areas, and fabulous views of a typical Welsh valley) is included. Bedroom plus ground floor facilities - kitchen, diner, lounge, shared bathroom. I'd appreciate it if you didn't take food into the bedroom. I will be there to welcome you - usually with tea and home made cake - when you arrive. I have various hobbies which keep me busy, so you will have as much privacy as you like. If you want company, I can provide that too! I have an extensive knowledge of Wales and it's history, so if you would like recommendations about places to visit, I would happy to point you in various directions. You will have your own key so that you can come and go as you please. It's a quiet residential area - a small development of 30 x 1960s bungalows and houses off a terraced road of miner's cottages, close to a main road, 5 minutes walk from the rail station and 5 -15 minutes walk from bus stops (depending on destination) .There is a country park 5 - 10 minutes walk away with level walks/cycle paths through the woods and wildflower meadows and more challenging walks over the hills. The park has a great viewpoint of several valleys and miles of countryside at it's highest point, as well as the largest earth sculpture in Britain (Sultan the pit pony). There are several takeaways - Indian, Chinese, kebabs, fish and chips and pizzas, within a ten minute walk, including some who deliver. There is an Indian restaurant, two nice Cafes (daytimes), a pub which serves British food, and another pub which serves Thai food and British food, all within ten minutes walk of the house. Quiet location 5 minutes walk from railway station (but you can't hear the trains from the house). Bus stops are 10 and 15 minutes walk away (depending on where you want to go) It's a 15 minute train journey to Caerphilly - with the biggest castle in Wales - or 35 minutes to Cardiff Bay where there are many restaurants and bars by the water; also to Cardiff Central station, which is right next to the Millennium stadium, so great for football and rugby matches and concerts. The trains run every 15 minutes during the day, and hourly at night. Trains run at 2 hour intervals on Sundays - there are no trains into Cardiff on Sunday mornings, but there are buses. Traveline Cymru is a useful website - you just enter your journey details and it will list all the available forms of transport. If travelling by car, the house is 300 yards from A472 main route, 3 miles from A470 (main road from south to north Wales), and there is on and off road parking. If you arrive by train, but want a hire car, Enterprise rentals will collect you from my home to pick up the car, and drop you back at the end as part of a car rental. This is at no extra cost, just needs to be arranged in advance, using the Hawthorn/Pontypridd branch. Tesco supermarket with filling station is 5 minutes drive/10-15 minutes walk away. Village centre with Lidl, mini-markets, pubs, Indian restaurants, fish and chip shops, Chinese takeaways and a good kebab house is 10 minutes walk away. If you like history, you can drive to Llancaiach Fawr historic house in ten minutes, Caerphilly castle in 15, the fairytale Castell Coch in 20, and Cyfarthfa castle in 20. There are great walks in the area - you can be in woods 5-10 minutes from the house, or you can drive for half an hour and be in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Abergavenny, Crickhowell and Brecon are all picturesque towns within 40 minutes drive. Swansea and Newport are both less than an hour away. Bristol airport is an hour's drive (longer in rush hours), and Cardiff Wales airport is around 45 minutes drive, or an hour on public transport (bus between airport and Cardiff railway station, train between Cardiff and property.) You need to be able to climb stairs as the room is upstairs, and access to the house also involves some steps.
