Stratheden Cottage

Nestled in the heart of the serene Motueka River Valley and located just 15 minutes from the Motueka Township, Stratheden Cottage is a newly refurbished farm cottage with high quality modern facilities, situated on 250 acres of rolling farmland and native bush. With its spectacular mountain vistas and stunning night skies, this is a perfect hideaway for those looking to escape. This is also the home of our Valais Blacknose sheep, termed the cutest sheep in the world. Sit and relax on the deck in the sun and watch our native birds or be up close and personal with our cattle and rare Valais Blacknose sheep. If you prefer something more active, there is so much more on offer in and around the area. These are but a few: Swimming, kayaking, wineries, world class fishing rivers, famous Lord Of The Rings location, Abel Tasman national park (location of one of New Zealand’s ‘Great Walks’). Whether you’re visiting by yourself, as a couple, or bringing the whole family, this is the perfect holiday spot for everyone. This property primarily specialises in farming grass fed cattle, providing beef to Silver Fern Farms. It’s usually possible for visitors to walk around the farm and as a working farm, see the animals up close (subject to farm conditions). At certain times of the year you can watch our Valais Blacknose lambs playing just beside you or if you wish you can feed them their snacks. The two bedrooms contain a queen bed in one and a double/single bunk unit in the other. The property is child friendly and fully fenced with a highchair and portacot available on request. Unfortunately due to the proximity of our sheep to the cottage we are unable to allow dogs on the property. There is better than average phone and WIFI coverage. The cottage contains full kitchen and laundry facilities. The open plan living gives spectacular panoramic views. A BBQ and outdoor seating completes the experience if you enjoy Al Fresco dining on the deck. Guests have access to the entire cottage and fenced garden area. You may wish to explore the farm and interact with our gorgeous animals and are welcome to do so after consultation with the hosts. The hosts live on the farm 1 km away from the cottage allowing guests to enjoy full privacy but are available if you have any needs or queries. If you are interested the hosts can organise a more personal experience for you with the farm, property and animals. Beautifully private with amazing activities just a short drive away. Collection from or drop off to the airport may be arranged for a fee.
