Cozy Waterfront Cottage on Sebasticook Lake
You couldn't get much closer to the water than in this beautifully quaint lakefront cottage. This home is located on Sebasticook Lake in Newport, Maine. This cottage is the perfect Maine Lake vacation destination, and is set up to accommodate 4 guests. Sebasticook lake is 7 miles long and approximately 4 miles wide at it's widest point. It is a peaceful lake with very little boat traffic. It is a great place to swim and enjoy leisure time. The cottage faces east, so it gets beautiful sunsets in the morning. There is lots of wildlife in the area, such as the regal loons, bald eagles, and great blue herons , not to mention the bass fish that the lake is known for. We provide a paddle boat, kayak (all with life jackets), and a dock to enjoy the lake. This cottage is pretty special! It is located in an area known as, Camp Benson Circle. Many of the cottages around the circle were built during the Civil War and were used as rest and relaxation camps for soldiers during that time. Camp Benson GAR, as it was known, was a place of lots of festivities, such as dances, parades, and family gatherings. People would arrive by train and ferry across the lake to the dance pavilion. It was quite an active area! There is certainly a lot of history in this quaint little neighborhood! The cottage is located within .5 mile of the ITS for snowmobile and ATV access. A Snowmobile/ATV Trailer can be parked across the street in a separate driveway. The master bedroom is located upstairs, and is furnished with a queen size bed, bureau, and closet. This is a spacious room with a large window overlooking the lake and spectacular view! There is a window fan available for our guests. The 2nd bedroom is located in the walk out basement. This bedroom offers a queen bed. This room also has a french door that leads to a covered patio...just a few feet from the waters edge. The loons beautiful callings will surely lull you into a peaceful sleep. The lower patio, located just outside of the walk out basement/bedroom, is just feet from the waters edge. It is a covered patio with seating and dining table. In addition, there is a propane BBQ grill on this patio for your use. The main floor, equipped with a portable air conditioner, consists of an open concept area... living room, kitchen, dining area, and breakfast bar. This area is beautifully decorated with a fully equipped kitchen, dining table, and also a flat screen television hanging over the living room mantle. Unfortunately, the fireplace is NOT functional. Just off the kitchen and through the sliding glass doors is a large comfortable outside deck that nearly hangs over the waters edge. It's a beautiful place to start your day and enjoy the stunning sunrise. Bathroom located on the main floor with tub and shower. A fire pit is available on the upper lawn. Have fun socializing around the campfire and toasting marshmallows! Finally, a 3 season front porch for sitting, napping, or reading a good book. Sebasticook Lake provides for many recreational activities: swimming, boating, fishing, and snowmobiling. However, during the first week of September the town begins a slight draw down of the lake to ensure desirable water quality. This draw down may impact your ability to use the lake. You may be able to carry a kayak out to the water, maybe even swim, but you cannot use a motor boat after draw down begins. The reason for this is because the water at the boat launch is not deep enough to launch or retrieve your boat. There is a private dock with steps leading to the water on this property for our renters to access the lake and enjoy swimming and fishing. ITS snowmobile/ ATV trail is just .5 mile from the house. The cottage has parking for 1 car at the cottage, and room for additional parking of 1 car and 1 snowmobile trailer in a driveway across the street from cottage. Also, park and ride is also just 1 mile from the cottage. Park your ATV/Snowmobile trailer and get on the ITS trail to head north or south. We are available by phone if you encounter any issues during your stay. Our home is on the neighboring property, as well. Although the location of the cottage has a country feel, it is just a few miles from I-95 and close to many local shopping conveniences. In addition, we are only 1/2 mile away from the ITS trail riding system for four wheeling and snowmobiling. The neighboring properties are very close, so we ask that you be respectful of that. Quite hour is from 10:00pm to 8:00 am. Only registered guests are allowed on the property, and absolutely no unregistered overnight guests. No parties or gatherings are allowed on the premise, and failure to abide by these rules may result in immediate termination of stay. Only 2 hour drive to Acadia National Park and 1.5 hours to Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. 1.5 hour drive to Moosehead Lake region ITS Trail is .5 miles from cottage.
