Located in Downtown Historic District.Historic use was a Sunday Haus. Close for Blanco events, shopping, swimming or picnics in the park and walk back to unwind before heading off for more activities or out to eat and enjoy live music. Historic board & batten Sunday Haus, newly restored. Kitchenette with "ice box" (fridge), Keurig, & microwave. Bath with shower & separate closet. Decorated with family antiques and local art. Futon with 11 inch comfortable mattress and 1.5 inch Therapeudic Memory Foam mattress topper. No TV but has a DVD player and DVDs. Bring your favorite ones with you. Dining table provides space for eating playing cards or doing some computer work. The Cottage sits in back of the Kellam House, which is the main house and is accessed from Live Oak Street. Front door leads into a comfortable main room with kitchenette & bath with shower. Adjoining the cottage yard is the back yard for the Main House but can be used to cut across to downtown. You will be welcomed by me and I will orient you to the property and surrounding area. Cottage is on property with The Kellam House, where I was born and now live. I love to share the history and to answer questions about Blanco and surrounding area. I do want this to be special for your stay. Since I live on the property I will be able to take care of any unexpected needs. Your privacy will be respected. On arrival we will comply with CDC rules of masks and temperature check. If temperature is over 99.9 we will do a 2nd check after cooling down. If it does not come down we will need a negativie Covid 19 test results to occupy. Getting away to Blanco is great for people who need some time away from the busy city life. In the cool early mornings you can join the locals on their walk through Roland and Viola Bindseil City Park and continue through the Blanco State Park. You can enjoy some birdwatching or if you bring your fishing gear there have been some 30+ lb catfish caught in Blanco River. You can return in the evenings for (when scheduled), Arts in the Park at Bindseil Park or Stargazing and other activities in the Blanco State Park. The Blanco State Park was constructed in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and has beautiful rock dams, tables and seats and the Clubhouse. My dad, at 18, came to Blanco with the CCCs and was the only one out of 160 boys to meet a girl, fall in love, marry and settle in Blanco to raise his family. Strolling on through downtown you will find several shops, The Pioneer Museum and the Old Blanco County Courthouse which was built in 1885. The courthouse scene for the 2nd True Grit movie was filmed in the courtroom. Market Days happens the 3rd Saturday on the Courthouse lawn but often there are other Saturdays that you see the lawn covered with tents and people selling their wares. There are 5 restaurants and a coffe house in the Downtown Historic District for delicious lunches. Returning for dinner you will enjoy live music at most of the restaurants. Right down the road is the Buggy Barn Museum with 53 historic buggies and carriages from all over the world and a Western Town with Wild West reenactments or gun fights and more. Across the Highway is the Real Ale Brewery to tour and sample some of their current 47 blends at their tasting room. Heading out in the other direction is the original town named Pittsburg, you will find The Historic Cemetery where civil war veterans and Texas Rangers are buried. If you like to do the Texas Two Step or Cotton Eye Joe the Historic Twin Sister Dance Hall, Fischer Store, Albert and Luckenbach Dance Halls are close. A unique experience in the evenings is to watch nine pen bowling teams next door at the Blanco Bowling Alley and Cafe. Nine pin bowling is a German team bowling sport and the competition can get exciting. You will soon be part of the cheering section so bring your ear plugs have dinner and a cold beer. Blanco is one hour from Austin and San Antonio with many historic places in between. Call the Buggy Barn and you can have a tour in one of their buckboards or buggies.
