Broad Oak Shepherds Hut, deepest Worcestershire!
Step out of the rat race and off-grid at The Shepherds Hut at Broad Oak. Enjoy the back-drop of the Malvern Hills, tranquillity and lack of people. Near Upton on Severn and Malvern, there are plenty of eating opportunities if you don't want to self-cater , but far enough away that you'd never guess they existed. The hut is a 300m walk from the car park so bring coat, wellies and a torch; it gets dark here! Private compost loo. Private shower and shared conventional loo at carpark. Our Shepherds Hut may be compact and bijou but it has everything you could need for a relaxing break. It is so peaceful and cosy, you can feel the tangles in your brain just melting away. Comfy bed, proper mattress, lots of pillows/cushions to make day-time lounging easy too. Pack light, remember you are stepping out of the world you know into a much smaller one! All bedding and towels are provided. Really all you need is a few clothes and a toothbrush/paste! The Hut is off-grid, so no electricity or running water! Romantic tea light lanterns keep the tranquil mood, though solar and battery powered lights nod to the 21st century. Cooking by gas hob and gas BBQ, or toasting in front of the log-burner. Cool-boxes and freezer blocks are provided - blocks renewed on request. Bottled drinking water and also a large canister of tap-water is provided, renewed at your request. There is a shower (just for you) and conventional loo, they are up by the car park. If you want to come as part of a larger group, but remain separate, book with our self catering lodges Forest Lodge (sleeps 4) and Fern Lodge (sleeps 2). The hut and deck are all yours, and also the earth-closet. There is a little 'woodland wander' where you can take the outdoor chairs and sit by the stream. There is plenty of wander room (16 acres), and loads of walks straight from the door. You don't have a garden - you just have LOADS of OUTSIDE!! The OS map, and a laminated annotated map, are in the hut, with lots of other things to do leaflets. So much within such a small area! Even we didn't realise! We live on site, and there is always someone around 24/7. Not that you can see us and we cannot see you! We all want our privacy! Our part of Worcestershire is a hidden gem, really and truly. We are just out of the AONB, but goodness knows why it didn't extend down our little network of lanes and meadows. The Malvern Hills form the backdrop to our little oasis. Our lane leads on to Upton on Severn (3miles) which is a lovey little riverside town with small supermarkets, 7 pubs, restaurants, antique shops and mooching possibilities. Upton hosts several festivals each year too; Folk, Jazz, Blues and Sunshine. Malvern is in the opposite direction - 5 miles, and Ledbury (8) and Worcester (11). Three Counties Showground is only 2 miles away - with its 100s of events each year, such as RHS Spring and Autumn shows, Royal Three Counties Agricultural Show, dog and horse shows, as well as craft and enthusiasts events. For more of the high-life, enjoy a day at the races; Worcester (12miles), Cheltenham (20) and Hereford (25) races courses are all in very easy reach. And don't forget the simple pleasures of a walk on the Hills or through nearby Wildlife Site flower rich meadows. Our immediate neighbourhood, Brotheridge Green hosts more than its fair share of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserves and SSSIs. You will find maps in the hut. There are gazillions of more usual things to do such Westons Cider for tours and tastings and nearby Lovells Vinyard - the info box in the hut is brimming with ideas..... We are only 8 miles from the M50 / M5, not that you would know, but it means that we are easily accessible from practically everywhere. Visitors arriving by train should come to Great Malvern. Buses are the usual rural type service, rare, but you can get to Worcester. The lanes around Broad Oak are quiet and provide lovely walks locally, and up onto the Malvern Hills. The Shepherds Hut is located at the far end of our trout fishery, beyond the little lake, 300m from the car park. The fishery is open to day ticket anglers (fly-fishing so no smelly water filled with bait) Tues-Sun. Anglers won't bother you, as they too have come for peace and tranquility and to get away from life's daily grind. The fishing is available to Hut guests, at the usual rates. Check out our website. Earth closet/compost loo near Hut, conventional loo and shower at fishing lodge 300m away. The Hut is OFF GRID so no electricity. There are 2 lights powered by 12v battery, 2 solar/wind up lights (lantern and torch/radio), or tea light lanterns for a more romantic lighting mood. One of the solar lights has charge cables for Phones etc. Or you may bring devices down to the house for charging conventionally - daytime only.
