A Henry David Thoreau experience! A log cabin, deep in the woods, no electric, no running water, no central heat, no toilet. No noise, no traffic. Just a whole lot of nothing... Just peace and quiet to think, to write, to feel more alive. Henry David didn't have WiFi and neither will you if you don't bring your own hotspot. “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately...” ― Henry David Thoreau A unique hand made log cabin, deep in the woods yet only 90 miles from New York City. You get to "fetch" your water from the pond. Heat yourself with the wood stove. Light your way with a candle. Yes, you are back in time. You are close to nature. You are on your own! PS. If you choose not to ruff it. There is electric lights, a hot plate, a mini fridge and a heater. (What next? Wifi, cable TV, streetlights and traffic...) To truly appreciate the cabin read or listen to Thoreau's Walden, or Life in the Woods before you arrive. “I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.” ― Henry David Thoreau In fair weather access is "driveable" to the cabin via a dirt road. In winter... If you have a 4-wheel drive or Subaru you can drive into the site. Or you will need to park in the spot by the main road and hike in... Snow shoes or cross country skies recommended for heavy snow conditions. In winter please call to confirm our local conditions. This a special place for very special people. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Cell service is not available from the cabin (AT&T and Verizon works sometimes). Generally a quiet neighborhood. The occasional screech of an eagle or hawk, the splash of a beaver's tail, the knock-knock-knock of the red headed woodpecker, the chatter of squirrels. At night darkness rules. You can see the stars like you never have before. Just lay on your back on the dock and look up in amazement. There is no public transportation direct to the cabin. The closest Rail Station is Port Jervis NY and Shortline Bus in Monticello. A cab ride is available. Remember, you will need to carry in your supplies. There is civilization within a few miles... Even a Walmart, fast food and shopping. Just remember you are going to be on your own. Dress for the season and weather condition. Bring extra clothes that may get wet. There is a wood stove for heat while you are in the cabin feeding the wood. Be mindful of your surroundings. Carry out any trash with you. Have fires only in the designated fire pits. And have a good time. Remember that you are in the woods, about half a mile from the nearest road. So plan your supplies carefully. There is civilization a few miles away, even a Walmart. A Special Note for City Folk: You share the woods with wild animals, (lions, tigers and bears...Oh My! skunks, bees and spiders too), don't eat yellow snow and don't get lost in the woods... also during holidays and busy seasons you may find other guests in the area or walking in the woods too. “Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.” ― Henry David Thoreau
