Generous Studio Downstairs (Mostly Private)
This 11x4M room is like a small flat. It sleeps 4 adults, is centrally located w/easy walking distance to Nowra which is a great jumping off place to discover the Sth Coast by car; just 20 min from Jervis Bay, Berry & Kangaroo Valley. We provide some breakfast supplies. Please read the detailed description as there is important information to help you decide if this place will suit you as I do part time hairdressing adjacent to the accommodation. Guests must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19. Please read the full description before you make a request to stay as there is important information to help you decide if our place is right for you. Most questions will be answered in the description. Also, please note there is a 3 night minimum stay on long weekends and a small price rise during school holidays due to high demand. This large (50 sq metre), light and airy room is like a small apartment in the downstairs of our house with its own entrance to the studio space and your own private bathroom. The studio is only let out to one group or person at a time. You will never be sharing the studio or bathroom with other guests. It's a great place to stay. To really get a good idea of what the Shoalhaven area has to offer you should plan to spend at least 3 days in the area. We have a 2 night minimum stay (3 night minimum on long weekends). The studio is divided up into 3 zones: The dining area - has a table and a small kitchenette that has a medium size bar fridge, microwave, jaffle iron, an electric kettle and toaster. On the porch outside the entry, there is a gas BBQ with a seperate cooking ring. There are a couple saucepans and frying pan plus utensils for people to use. Guests using the bbq must be responsible for cleaning it thoroughly. There are no other cooking facilities in the room. The sleeping area - has a queen size bed and 2 single beds. 4 adults would be very comfortable (with 2 sharing the queen bed). There is a clothes rack to hang up clothes plus a unit that has shelves and drawers for guests to store their gear. The entertainment area - has 2 couches, TV, Apple TV and DVD player plus some games like Scrabble and Battleships. The porch outside the entry door gets plenty of morning sun with a cafe table and chairs and is a lovely place to sit and have a coffee and enjoy the local birdlife. There is a heater for the cold weather and fans for warm weather. The room is a semi-basement, double brick and stays quite cool in the summer heat. There is plenty of un-timed parking on the street. There is one important thing that guests need to be aware of: I am a hairdresser and run a small, single chair salon that is in an adjacent room off (next to) the studio space. My salon is only a few steps from the shared entry door (see pictures) and my clients, when I’m working, walk through the dining end of the studio space (5 or 6 steps) to get to my salon. I work on my own during the daytime - by appointment only - there are never random people wandering in off the street. On an average day I see 4 - 5 clients. My work days are M-Tu-Th & Fr, so on those days there may be a client or two coming to the salon at any given time between 9:30 and 5:30. Some days are busier than others. I will always inform you in advance if I have bookings, and I am able to shut the door to the salon when a client is there. If you are staying Mon.- Fri. and are out working or sightseeing, you are unlikely to see any of my clients. If you’re here on the weekend it won’t be an issue at all because I won’t be working. In the case that I do have clients booked in, Airbnb guests are welcome to be here at the same time that I am working and need not feel awkward. My clients know that we are hosts and enjoy meeting our guests. Most of my clients are older people and middle age professionals who have been coming to me for years. Please note: very occasionally a client may need to use the toilet that is part of the accommodation. Other than that, the bathroom downstairs is solely for Airbnb guests. Over the past 8 years, when I've had hair clients come while Airbnb guests are staying at the same time, I always ask the Airbnb guests to comment on what it was like for them in their reviews at the end of their stay. So far, everyone has commented that it was not an issue. Truly, there has not much contact between our guests and my clients. I ask guests who are staying on my work days to expect that there may possibly be people coming and going and to keep the area tidy i.e. no dirty dishes, towels or clothes lying around. Guests are provided with supplies for a simple self-serve continental breakfast which include: cereal: Sultana Bran & WeetBix muesli instant oats mil (Website hidden by Airbnb) litres depending on group size and length of stay. butter jam vegemite peanut butter tea bags: black tea and a variety of herbal teas instant coffee freshly ground coffee French press plunger AeroPress Nespresso Pod coffee machine (does not include pods, but there is a stainless steel reusable pod that people can fill with the ground coffee that we provide). _____________________________________________________________ Please let me know before you arrive: - Your choice of milk: full cream, lite, skim or soy or if you don’t want any. - The first name(s) of any other person in your group - If you need more than one bed made up when there are 2 or more guests - Your estimated arrival time. - There is a gas BBQ with a separate cooking ring on the porch outside the studio, plus a selection of pots and pans. Guests using the BBQ are responsible for cleaning it thoroughly. We are happy to share our kitchen upstairs with guests who want to prepare simple vegetarian meals. If you use our kitchen we ask that any meat, poultry or fish be cooked outside on the BBQ as we are vegetarians and are sensitive to odours from cooking. We also expect that guests using our kitchen clean up after themselves throughly. There are 4 supermarkets in walking distance plus numerous restaurants and pubs. Guests have access to a large private bathroom. In the bathroom there is shampoo, conditioner, soap and a hairdryer for guests use, and shelves for you to unpack your things. Guests are welcome to leave their things on the shelves for the duration of their stay. We provide towels and all bedding. Guests may use our laundry upstairs for $4 per load (including detergent) There is a fold out drying rack on the porch. Sorry, no dryer. There is a 43” TV, Apple TV to log in to your own streaming service & DVD player plus a variety of DVD's that guests are welcome to watch. There are also some maps, pamphlets and books on the Shoalhaven region for people to discover more about the area. Free wi-fi This is our home as well as our workplace so we are around most of the time. We are fairly busy with the things we are involved with outside of home. In terms of interacting with guests we are flexible. We like to meet people and find out about them but we are not overly nosey. That being said, we expect that there will be some interaction and we'll take the cue from you. We look forward to meeting you. We have 2 cats and a dog. The dog (Sadie) cannot access the downstairs accommodation. The cats, especially Bandit (the black and white one) and Poppy (grey tabby) are curious and friendly and will sometimes go downstairs to visit. We make an effort to keep our cats inside as much as possible so if guests could try not to let them out (especially at night), we'd appreciate it. If they do get out, it's not a big deal. If you don't want to be visited by our cats, just keep the door to the stairwell closed. We keep fairly normal hours: loosely 7 am - 11 pm. We prefer that guests don't go in my salon, the storage room or the upstairs bedrooms. If there is something that guests need, please don't hesitate to come upstairs and ask, we will try to accommodate where we can and we are used to having people around. Sending me a text message if you need something is not always a reliable method of communicating. We are keen to give our guests a great experience and optimising the space is a constant work in progress. We welcome any suggestions on how to make your stay more enjoyable. We live in a great neighborhood. It is quiet yet within a few blocks walking distance to most things in Nowra. Visitors should be sure to visit Hanging Rock Lookout and do Ben's Walk at the Nowra Showgrounds, Cambewarra Lookout, Bomaderry Creek Bushland bushwalk and make a 20 min trip out to beautiful Jervis Bay. Nowra is a great central location to explore the south coast. You can do easy day trips from Nowra to Kangaroo Valley, Fitzroy Falls, Bowral, Minnamurra Falls, Berry, Gerringong, Gerroa, Wollongong, Jervis Bay and Milton/Ulladulla. My husband Robin is a keen surfer and can give excellent advice on the best local surf spots. Public transport is negligible though you can get the train from Sydney to Bomaderry/Nowra. We are happy to pick you up from the train station for a $10 fee if we are free. (Cost of a taxi is $17-20). We are 3 hours from the Sydney airport by train and 2.5 hours by car. Travelling by car follow the Princes Hwy south to and past Wollongong then onwards to Nowra. We are only hosting those guests who are fully vaccinated (3 doses) against Covid-19. Apologies, but this is the world we are now living in. There is no intended discrimination. This is a serious public health issue. My husband and I are both fully vaccinated. I suffer from episodic asthma and cannot afford to be put at risk of being exposed to the virus. If you are sending a booking enquiry or request when it is night time here (in Australia) please be patient with my reply. I tend to turn off my devices when I go to bed so I won't be disturbed. I always check for messages in the morning. Also, If you need your hair cut or coloured while you are in town please consider booking in with me. I would be happy to be of service (provided I don't have other bookings). I have over 40 years of professional experience in all areas of hairdressing and have been running my own business for the past 24 years in Nowra.
