Abbey Cottage Montacute
'Abbey Cottages' is a row of 4 houses situated on the edge of the heritage village of Montacute in South Somerset. Number 13 is a small but charming cottage located in a quiet cul-de-sac with private parking and a lovely garden at the back. The outdoors sitting area overlooks the field towards the former abbey, church and hills beyond. Montacute is best known for its historic house and parkland. Walks are possible from our doorstep into the village, parkland, woods on the hills and countryside. Our home is entirely set up to receive family and friends. In our absence we like to share it with others. We won’t be there to host our guests in person, but we keep contact before and during their stay, to make sure all is going well. We also left our books, maps and DVDs for our guests to use. entire house over 3 floors with garden and 1 private parking space situated on a private shared driveway (narrow entrance not suitable for long base vans) garden shed for storing bikes and firewood The key is in a keysafe secured to the front door, access to the house is at any time. We are available for help 24/7 by phone, mail and media. Emma is available for contact at any time during your stay and only lives 10 minutes away should you need assistance. Montacute is best known for its National Trust House (paying) and parkland (free). In the village are two pubs, a tearoom, a church, a post office, a petrol station and countryside walks. The nearest food shop is 1 mile away in the next village. Both the counties of Somerset and Dorset are easy to explore, as well as the famous Jurassic coast stretching from Exmouth into Purbeck. A list of fossil hunting tips can be requested to be sent by mail before arrival. Local information on where to visit and walk is available at our house (or under location-more about location-show host guidebook). Montacute is situated 2 miles south off the main road from London to Exeter (A303), near the border of Somerset with Dorset. The nearest train station is Yeovil at 6 miles and has a long stay commuters’ car park. Bath and Salisbury are 1 hour away by train, Bristol 1.5 hours, London 2.5 hours. Out of respect to our neighbours, who are permanent residents, we ask our guests to read the house rules prior to booking. We recommend only one family unit or couple to stay at the house as the living spaces are smaller due to the "Cottage style" nature of the home (for sitting and dining etc).
