This is a spacious guesthouse/retreat where you can relax and unwind. There are great views and walking down the road is serene, with open fields bordered by woods and teaming with wildlife. In the winter you can Nordic ski or snowshoe right outside your door, through fields and woodland paths through an active sugar-bush. We currently have guinea fowl and chickens as well as my friendly dog Annie who loves to play. We also have a kitty on the way (she's currently considering her options). This is a large one bedroom apartment with tall ceilings and great light. It has vintage touches mixed with modern amenities. The wood shop downstairs is sometimes active, and if you are interested, you can work on a project or just talk to Ben about plans for your own space. Nestled in the foothills of the green mountains, we’re just 10-15 minutes to restaurants in Bristol or Middlebury and 30-40 minutes to the lake or skiing. Burlington and Rutland are both around 45 minutes. The entire apartment is available to guests, as well as lawns, gardens, walkways and patio. There is a gas grill as well as a Weber for outdoor cooking on the patio and you are welcome to cook and eat on the picnic table - I’ll join you if I’m around. : ) The property is 30+ acres and offers walking paths through the woods, including a beaver pond and is adjacent to walkable fields and woods surrounding the property. The perimeter of the fields is kept mowed so you can take a walk without too much wading through tall grass. One guest mentioned the diversity of bugs and birds here. If you want nature, this is the place to be. There are tics here, though, so walking in the spring and fall is best kept to the road. I’m usually around off and on throughout the day and would gladly help you find things around the property or discuss your itinerary for the day. I have hiked most of the local and many of the regional trails and can be of service in choosing which to tackle next. I also mountain bike the local trails and play hockey in Middlebury and South Burlington. If you're coming up for a tournament, I'd love to hear from you. Our house is a 1/4 mile from the nearest neighbor, at the end of a dirt road. It is at the top of a hill so it has great views of the foothills and the back side of Mad River Glen through the Bristol gap. The road is great for walks or bike rides and the area is famous for it's great hiking, skiing or sailing. If you like local foods, the area is teeming with options. Download the Eat Local VT app to peruse many of the offerings. Bristol is 10 minutes, Middlebury 15 and Vergennes is 20. Being a rural place, we are quite dependent on our cars for getting anywhere. Also, when coming and going, the road is narrow and people tend to walk or bike it a lot. Please drive slowly and be conscientious. In order to get to the apartment entrance, you have to walk between the house and shop, around to the right where the single door has a stone step in front of it. The key is on the hook at the bottom of the stairs. Feel free to lock up when you are out, just return the key to the same spot when you leave. Locking up is optional as we are way out in the country...I’d rather set out a plate than lock up.
