Glorious country retreat
Beautifully appointed room with view to Esthwaite Water. Ensuite facilities with walk in shower. Great Cumbrian breakfasts to set you up for the day. Covid 19 update - I've put in place a number of measures for guests' safety (and my own), including surfaces are regularly sanitized, linen is laundered at a high temperature and breakfasts are served to your room. The guest bedroom, lounge and breakfast room are part of a Georgian extension (c1820) to the original farmhouse (c1695). They are all generously proportioned with high ceilings and large south facing windows. The bedroom has en suite facilities with a walk in shower, original artwork and antique furniture and textiles. It also has a very, very comfortable bed! There's a view over pasture and countryside to Esthwaite Water and its not unknown for deer and lambs to venture into the garden directly under the bedroom window. The only sound that you're likely to wake up to is birdsong. I can make an adjoining bedroom available for 1 or 2 children on the understanding that they share the en suite bathroom. Please contact me for further details. Guests have exclusive use of the breakfast/dining room and a lounge with tv, internet access and woodburner. Should the weather prove kind guests are welcome to sit out in the gardens. I live permanently at Green End House and I'd be more than happy to point the way to places and walks that I've enjoyed. I've particular interests in arts and antiques and food and drink, I'd love to share my Cumbrian favourites. Green End House is around 10 minutes walk from Hawkshead village, there are 4 pubs in the village, I particularly enjoy the beer and atmosphere in The Sun and the food is often outstanding in The Queens Head. The Drunken Duck and Chesters are respectively deservedly renowned pub and cafe locally. Ambleside is 10 or 12 minutes drive and amongst a good choice of restaurants Lake Road Kitchen, the Old Stamp House and Fellini's stand out. There's a couple of cinemas too. There are endless opportunities for walks, cycles, kayaking, wild swimming and many other outdoor activities. Tarn Hows and Esthwaite Water are close by. I often make the short ascent of Latterbarrow, a viewpoint over Windermere that's around 40 minutes walk from the gate. You're welcome to leave your car at the house, there's room to park. If you're travelling by public transport then its likely you'll pitch up at Windermere station. There are bus services into Hawkshead, leaving you with a further 10 minutes walk. If you contact me in advance I'll make every effort to arrange to collect you. I have a small dog, a Pomeranian called Lola. She's very friendly and safe with adults and children. She can be a little noisy when anyone comes to the door, especially the postman!
