Your Glamping Gateway to the North. Nestled in Michigan forest, our Wanderhut is a short 8-minute drive to Newaygo, 45 from Grand Rapids. Experience the joys of a camping getaway in comfort. Fishing, hiking, biking are only steps outside your door. Fall asleep with a campfire and a chorus of crickets; wake up with the sun and the chirping of birds. Our 3-season wall tent is the perfect camping getaway for those who want a few of the comforts of home. Furnished with a queen bed, the tent itself is spacious and comfortable. LED lights set a festive scene, and the screened in porch protects you from summer insects. While the tent does not have a bathroom or running water, a port-a-potty has been installed nearby. Shower/bath facilities are available at Henning Park Campgound (May 1st- October 1st)which is 5miles from the tent. A $6 vehicle day pass can be purchased at the main office to use the facilities. (Bath house, tennis/pickle ball courts, swimming pond, and Muskegon River access and boat launch). During the colder months (October -April) we install a small wood stove in the tent to help take the chill off. This stove will need tending to through out the night so it is still recommended that you plan accordingly for the weather (winter sleeping bags and proper attire). Our wall tent is just a short walk from our homestead, and you are welcome to view our garden and say good morning to our curious, free-range chickens. The firepit and firewood outside of the tent is yours to use. We want you to feel welcome and comfortable here. We are always available to answer questions about the area or help with your plans. However, we tend to stay near our house to give guests privacy while they enjoy their rustic holiday. We are always available to help guests start their campfires, or anything else they may need assistance with. The wall tent is nestled between two large properties, and we know our neighbors well. Within easy walking distance of the wall tent are access points to both the North Country Trail (which runs 4,500 miles across the Northern US), and the Coolbough Natural areas. Downtown Newaygo is a short 8-minute drive away, and the town has several restaurants, a cafe and brewery, and grocery options. Access points to the Muskegon River are also there, and tubers, kayakers, canoeists, and fisherman frequent the area year-round. Driving to and from town is recommended, but the trail systems in our area are hiking, walking, and horse friendly. Do be aware that this is a camping experience. While bedding, a porta-potty, hand sanitizer, firewood are provided, there is no running water or cookware in the tent. We recommend bringing water, foods you can cook by fire or your own camp stove. or taking advantage of the great restaraunt options in Newaygo.
