Carpenter's Barn
Carpenter's Barn is a self contained barn conversion which is connected to our house by a communal entrance hall. It is thought to be the oldest building in Upper Castle Combe, once used by the carpenters on the estate, and it still retains this character with exposed beams and stonework The property has been newly refurbished to a high standard including oak flooring and granite worktops. The sleeping area is on the mezzanine level tucked into the vaulted ceiling - it is very cosy, but be prepared for low beams! You are welcome to use the washing machine and drier, which are in the communal entrance hall, and are shared with our family. There is a small private garden area and patio for your use, but please be aware that the garden is also used by our family and children (11 and 14) and it is not fully fenced off. The garden is also a work in progress and has not yet been fully tamed, but is a lovely walled space with apple, pear and plum trees. Logs etc are provided for the log burner from the beginning of October to the beginning of April. Parking is on our driveway, where you have space for one car. It's not a big driveway, but there is space just about to turn around to avoid reversing onto the main road. The free village car park is a five minute walk away. It is a 10 minute walk down the hill into the centre of Castle Combe - voted England's prettiest village and the scene of several movies - either through the woods or down the road, where there is a choice of places to eat and drink. Locally there are beautiful walks through the woods and along the river in the surrounding countryside, and Castle Combe race track has regular events on. The world heritage city of Bath is easily reached by car or rail, and there are many lovely places in the wider Cotswolds to explore. Bath and Bristol are 1/2 hour away by car, and the barn is a 15 minute drive from Chippenham railway station . Chippenham is on the mainline to London - an hour and a quarter by train - and it's also a 10 minute ride from Chippenham to the centre of Bath ( a good option as traffic and parking in Bath is not the easiest). Chippenham is also where the nearest supermarkets are, but there is a good village shop in the Neighbouring village of Yatton Keynell, a mile and a half away.
