The Inn at Brome Howard offers a retreat away from it all. Nestled back off of a country road, the Inn is a perfect place for a weekend getaway. Bedrooms are decorated with vintage flair and located on the second floor of the historic home. The Inn at Brome Howard is available to rent for events as well. Should you be interested in booking for a wedding or special event, please contact me and I will forward you to our Events Manager. Being located in Maryland's first capital, the four rooms are each named after important colonial figures or pieces of Maryland history. Linens, towels, and toiletries are provided for each room, which all have a private bathroom. "Calvert's Retreat" is decorated in rich reds, offering a tall, four-poster queen bed and a lovely overlook of the St. Mary's River. "Mistress Brent's Eventide" is an open and airy space, featuring a king bed and a view that overlooks the vast front lawn. The "Ark and Dove Suite" with its calming blues offers adjoining rooms, a private sitting space, and a private bath. Perfect for families or traveling couples. Each room has one queen bed. "Arundel's Hideaway," is a sunny yellow with a queen-sized bed and in the center in the house, giving the room its own private staircase. Looking out the window, guests have a view of both the front and the back lawn. Due to its private nature, it has the feel of a little cottage. Guests will have access to the common sitting area on the first floor which is stocked with books and games for rainy days, as well as the dining area where you will eat your breakfast. Since this is a bed and breakfast, please do let me know of any food allergies, and I will do my best to accommodate. Those visiting will also be welcome to explore the over three miles of nature trails, or simply walk in the back of the property to enjoy the sunset over the St. Mary's River. Evenings can be spent sitting on either the back or front porch, all depends on what you'd rather view - field or water! I live on the property but tend to give guests some space. Should you need me, I am a quick phone call away! The "neighborhood" is rustic, wooded and quiet. Should you arrive during the lunch hour, a stop at nearby Enso Kitchen is a must! They are a local artisanal bakery that serves divine sandwiches, breads, and cookies (and some great cold-brew coffee!) Next door is Historic St. Mary's City, a national historic landmark and museum dedicated to Maryland's first colonial capital. Open Tuesday through Saturday, sights there include a 17th -century style tall ship, reconstructed buildings (including a brick chapel), and a representation of a Yaocomaco hamlet. It's a must-see for any history buff! Around 10 miles north of The Inn is Lexington Park, which has all the mainstream big chain restaurants but there are lots of local eateries nearby as well. If you're interested in finding a great place to eat, let me know and I'll give you tips on the freshest seafood you can find (and local flavor). There is plenty to see and do within a half an hour drive if you are interested in sightseeing: Historic St. Mary's City (as mentioned), the shops of Leonardtown, an Amish market, St. Clements Island, Piney Point Lighthouse, Point Lookout, and much more! Chat with me for info if you are trying to figure out an itinerary! There is no close public transportation. This is definitely a place to "get away." Parking is directly outside The Inn. St. Mary's County is about two hours south of DC or Baltimore. This is a by room rental without access to a kitchen. I do provide breakfast, as noted each morning of your stay. Unfortunately, we are not pet friendly.
