Dover Rest, a three bedroom seaside holiday home

You can bring the whole family or group of friends to this great place with bay views, two minutes walk to a safe beach, a fully equipped kitchen and a games area. Dover Rest is family friendly with amenities to suit every member of the family from babes in arms to adults seeking a place to relax and rejuvenate. Drive south of Hobart via the scenic Huon Highway and reside near wonderful tourist attractions At Dover Rest we want to ensure you have a stress free, comfortable and welcoming stay in our lovely holiday home that we are happy to share with you. We hope we have provided all that will achieve this for you. On arrival, tea/coffee/cocoa and milk, with provisions of bread, cheese and ham for toasties for supper or breakfast, is provided on that first day or morning. Please advise re dietary requirements (gluten, lactose free, vegetarian, vegan etc.) A fully equipped kitchen is available with cooking oil and salt and pepper available. There is a library, board games and a large selection of videos for evenings or those rest days when you want to snuggle up by the fire. There is a pool table and table tennis table in a games area in the garage for those who want some activity. Please supervise children at all times. Dover is a quiet tranquil seaside village, located at the head of Port Esperance Bay, and Dover Rest is perfect for a relaxed get away. It is worth spending a few days as there is much to see and experience. Dover is a centre for orchards and fishing for salmon, abalone and cray. Take a 20 minute drive along the Esperance Coast Road to the Huon Atlantic salmon farm and choose from a selection of salmon and ocean trout products to bring home for lunch or dinner. There is a local bottle shop for wine and beer. Catch your own fish from the Dover Wharf or purchase the freshest fish or cray from the fishing boats there when available. Cook it on the BBQ at your stay and enjoy on the deck overlooking Port Esperance Bay. There is an IGA for supplies if you are in the mood for cooking. If not, the Dover RSL Club has a restaurant with scallops and crayfish (at an affordable price, when in season) regularly on the menu which you can enjoy with spectacular views of Port Esperance Bay. You can also get wood fired pizza at Post Office 6985. Dine in or takeaway at the Top Shop Cafe for local seafood and standard takeaway fare; check hours as as they are irregular. Drive south and explore the Hartz Mountains National Park and the nearby Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs with a delightful picnic spot and BBQ area to enjoy by the pool. Get there early to get a spot. Also at nearby Southport, is the Ida Bay Historic Railway on which you can take a 14km train trip through gorgeous bushland to an idyllic beach spot for lunch. As you will know from your drive down to Dover, the Huon Highway is one of the most spectacular scenic drives in Tasmania. During your stay, it is worth a trip back along the highway to wineries and cider cafes including Franks Cider House and Cafe in the pretty town of Franklin for a tasting of locally produced cider and excellent food. Visit the Wooden Boat Centre to see traditional methods of boat building and take a Huon River cruise on a classic wooden sailing vessel. Stay for lunch at the Lady Franklin Hotel or Osteria at Petty Sessions. For great coffee and simple but delicious breakfast/lunch options (gluten free and vegan, just ask) visit the French Racoon for some of the best home baked food you will taste. Go further into Huonville to Huon Jet where you can take a thrilling Jet boat ride along the river or just relax and enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Huon River from the Boat Shed Cafe. Go to the Kate Hill winery for some tastings where you will, in my opinion, get one of the best cool climate Chardonnays. We never tire of the trip along the Huon Highway. It is beautiful in its ever changing pallet of colours, with something different to spellbind you on every drive into Franklin, Huonville or Hobart where there is much more to explore. The whole house and property is available to you for your enjoyment. Please note, depending on the number of guests, access to one or two of the bedrooms will be unavailable. There is a fully fenced back yard with room for children to play. Watch the rabbits and the Blue Wrens come out to feed on the grass. There is a games area in the garage. Please supervise children in there at all times. There is a beach 2 minutes walk from the house. It is shallow and great for kids to swim, kayak, board paddle etc. Please supervise children near water at all times. We are not located in Tasmania but are available by phone or email. Dover has a post office, chemist, IGA, garage/petrol station and a bottle shop. The IGA closes at 6.00pm in the off season. You may wish to stop at Woolworths in Huonville, that you pass through on your way down to Dover, to stock up on any provisions. Eat outs in Dover include a cafe next to the IGA, a takeaway/fish and chips cafe, pizza and an RSL club restaurant with scallops and crayfish regularly on the menu and amazing views over Port Esperance Bay. There is also a bistro that serves meals at the Dover Golf club, 81 Cemetery Road. Your own car or motorbike is the best way to get around Dover and its nearby attractions. There is off street parking for up to four vehicles and more motor bikes. There is a garage for undercover parking for your vehicle or a number of bikes.
