Set in the sleepy village of Bouriege in the Languedoc in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Our traditionally furnished home is on 3 floors with 4 bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchen with bread oven. Shared Solar Swimming Pool, Terrace and two gardens. The house is on three floors. You enter the house straight into our traditional old kitchen with red "tomette" tiles, the bread oven large kitchen table as well as the usual oven, microwave dishwasher etc. Through the kitchen is the formal dining room with enough plates and dishes for the largest of dinner. Off the back of the kitchen is the utility room with washer, extra deep freeze and the back door that leads up the alleyway to our "secret garden". On the second floor of the auberge is the master bedroom with a sleigh bed just opposite is the main large full bathroom with a ball and claw bathtub and shower. Further down the hall is the living room with plenty of books for lazy summer reading. The third floor has four bedrooms all with skylights. To the left is the red bedroom with one double beds. Straight ahead is the yellow bedroom with has an adjoining extra room which is perfect for parents with a small child.. On the right is the top floor bathroom with a shower. To the right is the white bedroom which has stairs that lead up out onto the terrace. The stairs from the terrace lead down to the shared solar heated black swimming pool. You must go through this bedroom to access the terrace and pool. The shared terrace at the back of the house allows us to dine outdoors without ever leaving our house. The pool, terrace and two gardens are shared between the houses but we have found there is plenty of space for everyone. Both the secret garden and river garden have a barbeque. We fell in love with our house, finding it by lucky chance over twenty years ago. The house is furnished with local farm pieces and period furniture. We renovated and furnished this house as our home and hope that all the visitors enjoy it as we always have. We like to think that some of the house's good times are imbued in its walls. There is a simple cafe just at the end of our street and the post office just next door. Our "secret' garden is up the alleyway. There is a table and chairs as well as a small BBQ and swing. Our larger garden is by a stream and is a 2 min walk from our place. Here you can play badminton or croquet, laze in a hammock, BBQ your dinner in our large stone BBQ or just laze under the cherry tree with a good book. We are in the heart of Cathar coutnry. Lots of chateaux from the very famous Carcassonne to the granddaddy of them all Perpyteuse and its smaller neighbor Queribus. We are 20 minutes from Rennes Le Chateau, 45 minutes to the Medieval town of Mirepoix with its wonderful half timbered houses and beautiful Monday morning market. We are an hour and a half from the beach and 40 minutes from our favorite lake that we often go to after doing our Sunday shop at Esperaza's farmers market. For those who want to venture further afield, Barcelona is a beautiful four and a half hours drive and the Spanish border just 2 hours away. We have bikes for you to use if you wish, including a tandem, and in the summer months, we are around and happy to suggest good bike routes or walks, make a reservation at a local table d'hote or restaurant or organize a wine tasting. We don’t often rent our place during the winter months but it is possible. Our central heating is run off of a wood burning furnace. . There is a winter wood/electric surcharge of 50 euros. WIfi and linens are provided. There is a washing machine off the kitchen in the utility room. Guests have shared access to the terrace, the solar heated swimming pool as well as the two gardens- one just opposite the artist studio- a small walled garden with stone bbq, stone table and longer table and chairs under tiled eves for meals al fresco- the other garden is further down the village by a small stream also with a stone bbq, table and chairs for eating out, badminton and croquet for those who want to be more active as well as a swing and hammock for those who want to enjoy the quiet. We are on hand if you need us and are happy to help when you need us - from making restaurant reservations locally, wine tastings or just advice for where to take a walk, bike ride or find a perfect picnic spot or local market. Our favorite farmers market is on Sunday morning in Esperaza. We always make sure to get there buy our fresh fruit and local produce for the week and then hang out and have our coffee or Pastis and watch the world go by. The auberge is located in the sleepy village of Bouriege in the region of the Languedoc- famous for its Cathar chateaus, stunning landscapes and vineyards This traditional small french village is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It has a population of 140 people and 142 when we are in residence, so if you want lots of night life and loud discos, our place is not for you! We love it for its peace, the traditional village life and of course lovely local food and wine that we can have so much fun cooking and then enjoying with friends out on the terrace or in one of the gardens, in our candle lit dining room or more simply sat at the kitchen table. There isi a local pretty basic cafe at the end of our street La Corneilla, you can have a drink or catch a simple bit to eat if you warn the cafe owner in advance. We are forty minutes from Carcassonne, an hour and a half from Toulouse and four and half hours from Barcelona if you fancy taking a couple days to visit this most amazing city. We are also in the middle of Cathar country. Alvin is always happy to give you routes for the perfect day trip out to see Perpeyteuse and Queribus or closer to home Rennes le Chateau. We are an hour and a half from the beach if you need a bit of sand and sea. Because we are in such a small village, you will need a car to get around and truly benefit from seeing what is on offer in the area. We have had guests stay who just used our bicycles, but you have to be pretty hardy for that as we are located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, so lots of hills. There is outdoor parking in the village. Either up further on our street or one street parallel or else up by our bigger garden. if you are flying into Toulouse, you can take a shuttle bus to the train station and take a train to Carcassonne where you can pick up a car rental if you are not picking one up from the airport in Toulouse. There is also a small train that runs from Carcassonne to Limoux but this train doesn't run as often, so you are probably best off renting a car from Carcassonne or Toulouse. There is street parking only. No private garage. Most shops are closed on Sundays. So if you are arriving on a Sunday keep that in mind.We recommend you bring at least some groceries with you if arriving late on Saturday as nothing is open. Our favorite Sunday morning farmers market is in Esperaza but do keep in mind that it closes up at midday. There is a supermarket - Super U in Limoux that is open on Sunday morning until midday if you need. Most places except supermarkets and restaurants are closed between 12 and 2pm so plan your day accordingly.
