‘Bertha’ is a 1947 restored Showman’s Wagon. Set in its own private garden, surrounded by secluded, beautiful, AONB countryside, situated between the villages of Cheddar and Draycott. The site is an ideal retreat for nature lovers, walkers, or those who wish to enjoy and explore the Mendips, the Somerset Levels, Wells, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and more. Ample parking, double bed, full kitchen, bathroom, c/heating, log burner, gas BBQ, fire pit, 2 x Bicycles. All in a unique private setting. Bertha is situated in what used to be a strawberry farm in an AONB area on the South West facing slopes of the Mendips, and within 4 acres of land that the owners also own, just above the ‘Top Road ( Upper Draycott Road’) near Cheddar. The site where Bertha is situated is very private and will make a perfect place for holiday makers who wish to enjoy the local countryside and other amenities that the location affords. Apart from the abundant wildlife, visitors can enjoy walking/hiking in the nearby Mendip Hills, (the site is very near the West Mendip Way) and visiting the Somerset Levels, the Avalon Marshes , a magical landscape where murmurations occur at certain times of the year ( this is a real spectacle where huge flocks of starlings often come together in huge clouds turning, wheeling and swooping !) They can also visit nearby Wells, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury and Cheddar Gorge. (Bicycles are available for visitors who wish to explore the local area without resorting to their car.) In addition to the local countryside, there is a local village shop with post office, strawberry farms, pubs (some featuring live entertainment) all within walking distance. Within 2 miles of the site is Cheddar with it's spectacular Gorge as well as various restaurants, shops etc. Within an hours drive visitors can also visit the cities of Bristol and Bath. We have mains electricity, fresh filtered and treated water from our own bore hole, and a full modern drainage system. As mentioned there is a fully equipped kitchen with washing up liquid and T towels provided. However there is no washing machine or dishwasher. 'Bertha' is situated in her own private garden via a locked gate. There is ample parking space for two cars and a small private path leads to the gated area which is Bertha's garden. Guests are welcome to walk to the field directly behind Bertha where they can take in the glorious views. We think Bertha is very 'homely' and we believe that guests who stay will have a very relaxing time, enjoying a cosy and intimate space situated in a green and natural environment. On arrival at 'The Paddocks' you will be met and given the code to the main gate combination lock. Please remember this code as it must be entered each time you arrive and leave 'The Paddocks'. If you have any problems with this then contact us on the number/s provided. Miriam or Jeremy can always be contacted via mobile phones and if required can attend the site within an hour.
