A ’boutique' village mud house painstakingly and beautifully restored with all modern amenities, the 4Rooms is for those who crave to be away from the hustle and bustle of tourism, yet not totally out of the way. Situated in the village, Gunehar, 2 KM from Bir and 4 KM from the busy, main tourist junction, 4Rooms is your home away from home, not an all-inclusive ‘hotel’. Our concept of alternative hospitality allows you to relax and rejuvenate. NOTE: the rooms don't have TVs or room service! The 70 year old merchant’s house is an oasis with 4 comfortable double rooms and a garden. It is set right in the middle of the non-touristic village, 1 minute from the quiet market place and 10 minutes walk from the river. There are excellent walks around and beyond the village, plus our highly praised restaurant and modern art gallery, the 4tables Cafe & Gallery is right down the street. Being close to the paragliding centre Bir-Billing, and with a number of sight-seeing attractions in the proximity, the 4Rooms makes for an excellent base for your activities without having to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the emerging and chaotic tourist infrastructure. The 4Rooms is not run as a hotel or guest house but is your home away from home. It is your own private space to linger, enjoy and feel comfortable, your base from which to undertake activities, including those offered by us: art and cooking courses, guided walks etc.. The 4Rooms is a whole experience: waking up in the middle of a village in an aesthetically beautiful and comfortable, carefully restored mud house, walking around the village which is the venue of contemporary arts events organised by us, having great fusion cuisine at the the 4tables Café & Gallery or a carefully prepared picnic at the riverside, trekking and paragliding in nearby Bir-Billing, visiting local Buddhist and Hindu temples… or simply spending a laid back day on the terrace watching villagers walk by, writing those final notes you always wanted to finish. The 4Rooms is your own home away from home, and we leave you alone to enjoy it. You are handed over the keys to the property and/or your room/s and take possession of the house. If you require anything, our small and dedicated staff is close by. Our well-appointed rustic rooms have comfortable bathrooms, terraces, a garden, wifi, tea-and-coffee making facility etc. (BUT NO TV!) to make you feel at home. We service the rooms daily and take very good care of our guests but also leave you alone. The 4tables Cafe & Gallery is just down the road (50 M) and offers delicious fusion cuisine, plus it functions as our meeting place for meals, discussions, movie screenings, arts happenings and such. This is also where breakfast is served. The place is very safe yet still protected by CCTV (only the outside spaces). You get the keys and are just a call away from whatever you require. I like meeting like-minded people and me and my small team takes good care of our guests without being intrusive. We do everything ourselves and I myself take care of my guests, including introducing them to the village and surrounding, to our arts projects, as well as cooking and serving in the restaurant. I also have a 10-year old child who loves having other children around. I feel children can learn a lot in places like these and my son is a great guide and companion. Gunehar is predominantly a village of Gaddis and Bara Bhangalis, whose original homes are further in the interiors of the mountains, beyond the Dhauladhar Range. Since most of these people are semi-nomadic shepherds, and since the extremely cold winters cut off their villages from the Indian mainland for more than half a year, they have traditionally had winter dwellings on the southern slopes of the Himalaya such as Gunehar. Today, this traditional way of living and trading is still quite intact in Gunehar. Most people still move between their original homes in the interiors and the Jandher, keeping old traditions (and the old routes) alive. Also, Gunehar still retains its old-time charm and especially its unique culture. Gunehar can be the base for some great, other-worldly treks to the untouched Himalayan interiors. Gunehar is also venue to our biannual contemporary arts event, ShopArt/ArtShop. Traces of our last exhibition (2013 & 2016) can still be found all over the village, plus there is a gallery of this at the 4tables. Walking, local taxis; car parking in village; pick-up from Kangra Airport, Pathankot Railway Station or from Bus Stop possible. Please keep in mind that though we are doing our best, this is still a remote Indian village with limited facilities (power cuts, internet cuts etc.-- though seldom!) Also, we are a small team and though we are great multi-taskers, we can not immediately fulfil all your wishes. Finally, we appreciate appropriate behaviour in the village and in interaction with villagers as well as the 4tables team. Loud music, rowdy behaviour etc is not welcome.
