Whitianga is a town that has a lot offer you and your family for your stay away. There are a range of shops in Whitianga that range from a major supermarket, retail shops and service businesses to cover your needs for the stay. The obvious attraction in this town is the sea and fishing available to you do from here but the area also has a great estuary that has some safe and interesting places to kayak. A cozy classic kiwi bach across the road from a family friendly and safe beach! Great for a get away to enjoy the ocean and local township. We are very happy for you to contact us and we will happily help you if we can. 😊 The more able paddler can explore the inshore waters and coastline. A 5 minute trip on the ferry to Ferry landing and short walk to Front beach gets you to safe swimming beach and further walking (20 minutes) gets you to Shakespeare Cliff, Lonely bay (another 5 minutes on) and Cooks beach (10 minutes on). There are a few short walks around this area as well. While you are over there catch the bus to Hahei for a walk around the Cathedral Cove walkway (where parts of Narnia was filmed) or go bit further on to Hotwater Beach where you can dig yourself into a hole and soak in your own personal hotwater bath (take your own spade/ shovel). Heading north of Whitianga gets you to Kuaotunu beach. You can have swim here or go onto Matarangi where there’s another good kayaking estuary, golf, an ocean beach and some areas to fish from the rocks. A short 10 minutes up the road from here gets you Whangapoua where there’s a lovely walk to an old Pa and Opera Point – great view of the sea and surround landscapes. The estuary there, near Opera point, has a sandy bottom and is a safe swimming spot. Going back to Kuaotunu you take the turn off to Otama Beach which has to be the nicest uninhabited beach on the Coromandel. Carry on a bit further and you get to Opito bay where there is a nice walk to a headland that looks out on the islands and south towards Cooks Beach, Hahei and Alderman Islands. A nice stroll along the beach into the township. Bike tracks along the beach front are available for your convenience. Walk across the road to get to the beach. We are always available to help you with your queztions. We are happy for you to contact us by phone and we will help you if we can 😊
