Named for the tranquil creek running through the four-acre property, this cottage is a blend of old mountain charm and modern conveniences. The cozy, refurbished 1940’s farmhouse is nestled in an open, sun-filled valley with a wildflower meadow and pond. You’ll be a short distance from the Blue Ridge Parkway and many other destinations for outdoor adventures. It is a perfect secluded getaway for those wanting to relax, unwind and unplug. The spacious 1,250 sq ft one-story ranch house has an open floor plan with a kitchen, dining/living rooms and a study. There are two quiet and cozy bedrooms with ample closet space. There is a full en-suite bathroom in the master bedroom, and another full bathroom with a claw foot tub. The light-filled kitchen is fully equipped with appliances, cookware and dishes. Some sundries and spices are available to get you started. Wireless internet is available for your devices and to help boost phone reception. The smart TV platform allows you to log into your own media and entertainment accounts (NOTE: there is no cable TV service at the cottage). If you want a break from today’s technology, the cottage is stocked with DVD’s, books, games and puzzles. A list of stores, restaurants, shopping, activities and basic services is available for all guests. Creekside Cottage is in a central location to many activities and adventures depending on your interests; many are listed below in "The Neighborhood" description. This area is great for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, and offers fishing, golfing, skiing, bicycling or motorcycling, gem mining, and just generally exploring or taking in the views. Linens are provided for bed and bath. There is a front-load washer and dryer should you need to refresh your clothes supply. There is central air conditioning and heat, depending on the season. Guests have full access to the house and are encouraged to enjoy the front porch, the creekside and around the pond located in front. There are pathways to explore the fields of native wildflowers, pick blackberries, apples, and grapes in season. Outdoor amenities include a propane grill, fire pit, picnic table, and furniture for dining and lounging on the porch. Enjoy an outdoor fire, a meal by the creek, or relax with a drink on the front porch. Access to the house is via a short gravel road and there is plenty of parking space. Your host lives and works part-time in the studio building which is a short walk from the house. Both buildings are private and separate. I am happy to assist your planning as needed. The activities/information book in the house contains a wealth of information to help you enjoy your visit, whether it be restaurants, events, shops, festivals and local places of interest. To the east there is Linville Falls and caverns, Grandfather Mountain, Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock. To the southwest is Asheville, The Biltmore Estate, Craggy Gardens, and Mount Mitchell. Locally you will find Spruce Pine, Burnsville, Wild Acres, Crabtree Falls, The Orchard at Altapass, and the Penland School of Crafts which is just 12 miles away. Closer to home is downtown Little Switzerland with places to eat, a bookstore, and other charming shops. There is a large artist community with summer festivals and craft fairs to explore. Little Switzerland’s altitude is approximately 3,400 ft. It is a small and quaint area with beautiful views and wide open spaces peppered with village houses. Because it is centrally located and off the Blue Ridge Parkway, the area is alive with action. The cottage, however, is located two miles down a mountain-edged road from the village, and nestled at the base of a mountain. It is generally very quiet. PHONE SERVICE: Cell phone reception is generally good, but it can be spotty at times. We are in the mountains. CHILDREN: This house is not child-proofed for young children. There are also no accommodations for babies. BEDS: The second bedroom can be arranged with either two single beds or one king bed. Just let us know prior to your arrival how you'd like it to be set up for your visit. SUPPLIES: Groceries and supplies are available within 5 to 10 miles, but we suggest guests bring what they may need for immediate use so they can stay and relax on the property for their first meals, if so desired. FIRES: Guests are welcome to use the fire pit year-round, and firewood is available by the parking area. The small wood stove in the study can be used in winter months with prior permission from the host, but the fireplace in the living room is not to be used by guests. Please let the host know in advance if you would like materials for using the wood stove to be provided. NO SMOKING POLICY due to guest and owner allergies. You will be charged an extra cleaning fee of $200 if you do. LONG TERM RENTALS: Please send an inquiry for details.
