Hudson Valley Farmhouse
Come stay in a 200 year-old farmhouse in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Great access to area hiking and outdoor activities including the Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, Bear Mountain, HV Wine Trail and more. 20 minutes from Beacon station on the Metro-North Hudson Line, 20 minutes from Skydive the Ranch. *At this time, I’m requiring that all guests be fully vaccinated for COVID19, except for children 12 years old and under.* **Please note the listing price is based on one room with two people. You may select which room with me directly.** Limited availability: for special occasions, I can accommodate up to 4 people; shoot me a message or an inquiry. My house was originally constructed in 1796, and has been in my family since 1937. It is cozy and charming, a little quirky, with a broad porch on the south side great for morning coffee and evening wine. The setting is rural - the house is on about 22.5 acres, mostly wooded, with broad lawns around the house. As a few guests have suggested I point out, this is a legitimate old farmhouse, not an updated take or fake on an old farmhouse! It's rustic and comfortable, with some historic gems (like original Currier and Ives wall paper on the kitchen level). I do have two indoor cats, so please be aware if you have allergies (or phobias!) this is not be the listing for you. The cats are not allowed in the bedrooms once they have been cleaned and set up for guests, but they are allowed in every other space in the house. Guests may select from one of two bedrooms - two twin beds on the east side of the house, or one queen bed on the south side of the house. You may select which room you’d like with me upon booking. The one very large bathroom (bath tub and shower, recently renovated) on the main level is shared with the whole house. Kids 3 and up are definitely welcome (the house has had many over the years!), but I unfortunately don't have accommodations on hand for infants. If you have your own pack'n'play, crib, or other for your infant, I'm happy to host your little one. If you are traveling with an infant or child that you expect to share the room with you, the room with two twin beds is the only one large enough to accommodate a pack'n'play or crib. In addition to the bedroom and bathroom, guests have access to the kitchen, porch, living room, and generous lawns and yard (there is a charcoal Weber grill available for guest use). If a door is closed, or a curtain drawn, please understand the room is not suitable for guest access. Guests may help themselves to fresh eggs from my hens in season (March thru October). There's generally a bowl full on the kitchen table! I can guarantee organic eggs from daily free-roaming, generally savvy, but sort of grumpy hens. I live here, and am generally around doing farm-y chores and things on weekends. During the week, I'm around in the evenings. I can offer recommendations to area restaurants, site-seeing, hiking, etc., and am happy to share the history of this wonderful house. My horses are super friendly - they love to be petted and scratched (they're basically like giant golden retrievers), but please don't give them treats without checking with me first. Some things can make them sick. The neighborhood is quiet, rural, and very safe. I have known most of my neighbors for my entire life. There are some great places to eat in the wider neighborhood, including the Lakeview House, Cafe Mio (great brunch), the Gunkhaus (fabulous German food and beer), and the Racoon Saloon. Within about 20 minutes of the house are DIA:Beacon and the charming downtown of Beacon, five or six wineries, Tuthilltown Distillery, the Newburgh Waterfront and Washington's Headquarters, New Paltz, the Mohonk Preserve, and Storm King Art Center. For the more adventurous, Skydive the Ranch is about 15 minutes away in Gardiner. West Point is about 30 minutes away. Check out the guidebook for more info! The Beacon train station (Metro North Hudson Line from Grand Central in NYC) is about 20 minutes away, and Stewart International Airport is about 15 minutes away. There is a shuttle from the train to the airport, and the airport has rental car options. Uber, Lyft, and taxi services are all available in the area. *2021 Update: due to the pandemic, Uber and Lyft services seem to be limited in my area. It is available from the Beacon train station, but once here, seems to be quite scarce. Hopefully this will improve in the coming months.* ** Note for summer visitors** There are fans in the bedrooms, but there is no AC in the whole house. This is not an issue unless we're in the midst of an August 100F+ heat wave; the house cools off rapidly at night. **Weekday Mon-Fri check-in is limited to 5pm at the earliest, except by special arrangement.** Please verify PRIOR TO BOOKING if you need to check in earlier than 5pm during the work week.
