No 1 Cathelyd Colliery Stables is a renovated stable block that housed the pit ponies from the local colliery at the turn of the century. The property has 2 cottages No 1 & No 2. No 2 can be booked under a separate listing. Next to the bird reserve and also with a private valley walk it is an ideal location for walkers. Dogs are welcome. We are situated 3 miles from J45 of the M4 with easy access to Swansea, the Gower and the Brecon Beacons. Free range pork produce is available from the farm. The cottage has an open plan living, dining and kitchen area that has been renovated to a high standard. There is stairs to the first floor with bedroom 1 that has a king size bed and bedroom 2 that has 2 single beds 2'6". The bathroom has a shower (no bath). All rooms upstairs have sky lights and is bright and airy. Bed linen and towels provided. Wi-Fi available. Welcome pack is provided on arrival including tea, coffee, and sugar. Basic items such as washing up liquid, toilet rolls, hand wash etc are provided and a hair dryer There is an outside unit that has laundry facilities, washing m/c, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board, freezer, drying room, and a lock up for bikes and other equipment. The New Inn pub next door serves lunch and evening meals Tues to Sat. Sunday lunch is served to 3pm. There are 4 electric hook ups available for camper vans or tents for larger parties. There is a private walk along the valley I live on the farm up the hill from the cottage and I am happy to show you around and provide local information if you wish. The Mawr is one of the most sparsely populated in Swansea, is the second largest ward in Swansea by land area. Most of the ward consists of rural farmland and open moorland. Cwm Clydach RSPB Reserve is next to the cottages. Public paths and trails are open from dawn to dusk. There are two main trails which begin at the main car park. The shortest, known as the Nixon trail is a 2.2 km circular walk. The 4.7 km Trussler trail is rugged in parts. Both trails connect with longer distance footpaths leading off the reserve. It is ancient broadleaved woodland and is home to breeding pied flycatchers, redstarts, dippers and buzzards. The Lower Clydach River flows through the centre of the reserve. There are two man-made reservoirs near the village of Felindre, in the Lliw valley, called the Lower Lliw Reservoir and the Upper Lliw Reservoir. The reservoirs are managed by Welsh Water. The surrounding countryside is open to the public for recreational purposes. There is a bus stop outside the New Inn Pub next door and there is a local taxi firm in the town Clydach a mile away. There is a stream the other side of the fence with a steep bank and access to a private valley walk across a brook. The valley is natural wild wooded area with fallen trees and leaf cover that can be slippery. Care must be taken around these areas and appropriate footwear is recommended especially in wet weather.
